A clarification: In Canada these new hires received a letter from the president of CPC in January effectively guaranteeing their job security. Some of the affected got a call on the way to their first day of work saying not to come, most had already moved to their work location. Regardless of whether you believe this is necessary as a commitment to existing staff, the timing and false promise could not have been more cruel to these kids. Had they not received a guarantee they could have spent the last 8 months looking for a job.

Trust and Accountability, folks, that's the new name of the game...

Anonymous146484: The new hires with less than one year are in better shape than the general population. Some of them will certainly be severed but the layoff rate will be less than the higher grades. The company's first goal is to cut costs ASAP and they can get more "bang for their buck" by targeting the higher SGL's. Also, the company is very cognizant about the generation gap that was created during the late '80's downturn, and want to avoid doing that again.

A ton of oil and gas companies in Calgary rescinded their offers for May start dates, Conoco was one of the only ones that honored them. So not surprised they are changing their tune now. They should be loyal to existing staff first.

No doubt the hiring supervisor coordinated with the new hires to purchase a home in Bartlesville prior to the start date. Live in your car to limit committments to Bartlesville for new hires in Bartlesville. (Or move to Tulsa)

I hope the September ones hadn't already moved to their job location.

I know that grads with signed offers had their offers rescinded yesterday. And that was on campus recruited.Anyone starting in September or after had their offers revoked.

Safe to say if you did not formally accept the offer and receive acknowledgement as such you no longer have an offer. Best guess the "acknowledgement as such" were delayed to create opportunities to rescind offers. The non "on campus recruits" are of no concern to ConocoPhillips and my continue to rescind offers beyond the start date.

What about that group of new hires from that wipt deal. They all hired in January?

Wow- how does that work? If there was an offer accepted, is that allowed? I would definitely think the recruiting staff would receive cuts as recruits will not be interested in COP anymore, if this is how they recruit.

Anyone know if the new hires with less than a year are likely to get cut as well? Are the newer engineers working in the field going to stay in the field, come back to the office or moving on?
