I truly am thankful to be out of Chevron. The companies management is so arrogant and they are so full of shit when it comes to their processes. Trying to change course in Chevron is like trying to turn an aircraft carrier with out a rudder or screws. No one will make a decision and when it does come it's a million dollars short and four months late.

Oh great. Here comes the race thing again. Really, is that so close to your core that you have to go there. Your sad!

You must be black without a degree. OF COURSE IT WAS A LOT OF MONEY FOR YOU. For those who actually study and graduated with honors and actually worked. Chevron was 17-20% short on what other companies offered But of course, everyone wants to wear the amazing brands.

If you have to rank Chevron's pay like we are on our PMPs, it would get no better than a 2-. They pay lower than their super-major peers and considerably lower compared to large cap independents. Like Anonymous 146928 points out, we are sold on "long term security" but that is not tested until you come to a situation like now. We can see now that it is only a myth. If you have 15+ years of real experience (not pushing paper but solid technical work), you can do better working for large-mid cap independents with same amount of risk. But of course you have to wait for a recovery as there is not lot of hiring going on now.

Hahaha @Anon146944, overseas opportunity! What's that?! I wish I could say 'get comfortable in your current BU', but we all know better than that...

Overpaid? The only ones that are overpaid are those executives making the bad decisions and promoting their buddies into positions for which they are not qualified.

Overpaid? I know furniture salesmen that clear more than I do a year $200 k +. The difference is, I don't want to sell furniture. You don't need a degree for that.

Anonymous146928, but those independents probably don't have the overseas opportunities that we have.........oh wait

And, I should add, that being laid off from Chevron is the highest compliment that a true professional can receive.

I am a SME with 25 yrs experience, nobody at Chevron can match my specialized skills.

I can tell you that Chevron pays well below what independents pay, claiming that a lower paycheck is exchange for "long-term security" and "benefits"

I bought into this propaganda, last year I rejected an offer from an independent in favor of joining Chevron. I could have received a $100,000 sign on bonus instead of the $25,000 sign on that Chevron offered. The independent offered $230,000 salary with 35% bonus instead of the $190,000 salary with 25% bonus offered by Chevron.

So, I've been underpaid, with no job security.

Chevron does not value "SME's " anymore....a large part of the problem........2 years and out....yup...the demise of CVX.....lots of high level people in CVX to blame for this lame thinking......yes and at PDC move move move....levels!!

Very true what Anon146799 says. At Chevron, most of the real work is done by the Subject Matter Expert (SME), an employee or contractor that is 2 pay grades below the person who thinks the company can't do without them. Just layoff these SME's and watch Chevron lose even more value.

Speak for your fing self; I've busted my ass for 25 years with this company. I don't have a degree, yet I spend 90% of my time as an "SME" supporting engineers 2 pay grades above me, who haven't a fing a clue how a plant actually operates. I'm hardly over f***ing paid asshole.
