Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

companies will get more bang for the buck by cutting the steeper salaries that come with upper management

But in pure dollar terms, companies will get more bang for the buck by cutting the steeper salaries that come with upper management, said Gheit. Given that many senior positions in the energy industry are held by those near, or at, retirement age, we'll likely see a lot of senior roles go by the wayside as companies continue to navigate the oil market downturn.

Chevron is definitely cutting back on expatriate workers. It's not as simple as it seems though. Many of our contracts require us to take expatriates into the United States for career development purposes and basically in return for allowing us to produce in those countries. We also have to send expatriates out on projects where there is no expertise or a shadow looking workforce that refuses to work either implicitly or explicitly.

Ya, but what about all the expats in the US from elsewhere in the world? There are many in Houston, Bakersfield, San Ramon, Covington, you name it. Are so many needed?

The expats are already starting to get sent home everywhere. It will not surprise me if all expats globally are cut by 90% by this time next year or sooner.

Anonymous147669 - they are bringing home most of the expats.

DWEP, as one of the few BUs still busy and least affected by ROM/RAE just absorbed a bunch of ABU/SASBU folks over the last 2 months

They need to cut more of the expats. There are too many in the US as expats costing Chevron 2 or 3 times the regular employees. And they do the same work or less.

Chevron does not think so....exhibit 1....ROM1 org charts. You can safely say no change! In fact the few managers that were left off will take a job in ROM2. So the sleep and eats are still in charge and banking their checks.
