Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Why don't we let go all the old timers?

These guys don't do jack but just drink coffee all day long and surf the internet

Anonymous148117: the question to newer people is not just "what have you done lately?" though it's "what have you done... ever?"

I think you are way off base here stating" throwing away their most valued employess". This is business and everything is based on "what have you done for me lately" not what you did for me in the past.... Who is supposed to have these memories that you refer to? Employees come and go, management changes, CEO change, who is supposed feel "grateful" for services you provided that you were paid for already? Employees get "paid" for their work and there are some added bonuses that come along with the employment... Standard stuff... You seem to think just because the old timers did something they should be perpetually retained and paid? If employee is not performing in the CURRENT needed environment, well its time to let them go. Nothing personal. As for old timers, most (not necessarily all) have no incentives (or ambition in career) simply because they are not in need of the "money"/employment per se. They treat this a a job and feel like they really don't need to work hard as they already have"made it". yes, i have heard some of them use this words very explicitly. "I need this job for benefits (medical etc...)". So really, these are the old timers that needs to go.. and there are many many of these... As for brown nosers, they are in all level old and new. Unfortunately the miserable company culture and upper management has promoted this kind of behavior. We are asked to buddy up with Directors, or at the very least not piss them off, because they are in review boards. We are asked to mind what we respond with in our email based on who is in the thread. Why hide information from management (folks who are to make descisions based on our, engineers, info) just so that we look good and to whom? Why not be factual and stop this facade? I think i have ranted enough.. But really your comment of Q having memories of your service is unreal.....

The "old timers" had motivation, innovative ideas and the energy to do whatever it took to establish CDMA as a world class technology when their competitors tried to stop it from becoming the dominant technology. QC HR and the Executives have very short memories and are throwing out their most valued employees and keeping the brown noser newbies!

Here is my definition of "old timer" = 20+ years in QC close to retirement, a person with director or above title which does not directly contribuites to project (I mean to do a hands on job, provide directions, design etc) I know for sure you know many like this...oh attending to 8 hrs does not count

Company has doubled since 2009 and from what I can tell is the worse for it... Don't think the "oldtimers" are the problem bro

You do realize that Qualcomm was built on the backs of us old-timers? 21 years this November, and I'm still busting my a%%. So STFU....
