Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Advice to COP: Don't fumble the ball twice! IF YOU CAN'T KEEP THE PROMISE, DON'T MAKE IT!

"A clarification: In Canada these new hires received a letter from the president of CPC in January effectively guaranteeing their job security. Some of the affected got a call on the way to their first day of work saying not to come, most had already moved to their work location. Regardless of whether you believe this is necessary as a commitment to existing staff, the timing and false promise could not have been more cruel to these kids. Had they not received a guarantee they could have spent the last 8 months looking for a job. Trust and Accountability, folks, that's the new name of the game." ----

Jesus Christ, IF YOU CAN'T KEEP THE PROMISE, DON'T MAKE IT! SIMPLE AS THAT. 8 MONTHS MIGHT NOT BE ENOUGH TO FIND A JOB IN THIS ENVIRONMENT, BUT AT LEAST PEOPLE CAN BETTER PREPARE THEMSELVES FOR THE STORM.

Your ridiculous rant only illustrates your lack of understanding of the business. A company has to react to commodity prices, especially the significant drop we have seen in the past 6 months. It is a business, wrap your head around that

People turned out to the cold will flee this industry. We will have another talent gap. That will drive another hiring boom in 2020-2025 just like the last hiring boom. I know of several on-campus graduates with MS and BS degrees who are now chasing PhD's instead, just to wait us out. Our journey has begun and we are headed toward a future where we lack experienced staff under 50 years old. We are in deep trouble here. Humpty dumpty will never put these children back together again.

That letter came out 7 or 8 months ago, and those individuals chose to take a 4.5 month break between graduation and starting work during an industry downturn. It's terrible that it happened, but lets be a little realistic here.

Please tell us what is going to happen next month. Since you think people have a crystal ball to see into the future maybe you have one too.
