Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Gorgon strike avoided.

Now the rest of the story. XOM did the negotiations as union did not trust Chevron. Bizarre to see that happen. And a horrible sign moving forward. Also we were told that 25% reduction for Chevron employees in Gorgon, Wheatstone and Perth will happen by January 1, in what was described as a "Cash flow emergency." For the old timers this will be nothing like 86 and 1998 at Chevron. At Chevron it will be much worse. We are all adults and know the risks. But this is just the first few minutes of the game, there is going to be much much more blood letting. The seasoned PM' s are leaving and taking the competent younger employees with them. Let's see what Chevron reports on this quarterly meeting. Some are saying another year some are saying 8 months. As I said before, we will have major operational issues on start up.....because it's Chevron.

Nicely done Exxon. it seems as though Exxon has folks that actually work for the company. I wonder if CVX could survive if they laid off all the contractors?

Thank you for confirming the words cash flow emergency. I heard that and quite frankly did nit believe a leader in Chevron would say that! But they did. You know I don't even think we would need to NOJV anything. 95% of all work is done by contractors. If we just would say do this with this budget we would double the efficiency. It's all the processes and inexperienced employees that slow progress. Our contractors are the experts let them do there job and as you suggested we can manufacture PP presentations.

Embarrassing. Need to NOJV the entire company. Let our partners operate and execute. We'll just create meaningless but pretty PowerPoint decks and work on fit breaks.

Which Chevron executive will take the credit for bravely / persistently / sternly / pick your adverb negotiating with the unions to avert the strike? And what are the odds any credit will be given to XOM ? or even any mention of XOM doing the negotiating?

Man we are in trouble if they are cutting actual Chevron PMs on site. I have 2 friends over there and the workers said Exxon had to negotiate. They said it was hammered out in an hour with Exxon 23/9 and a 5% raise. Chevron has been negotiating over 12 months. Chevron 12 months.....Exxon an hour. Sounds about right. No one spoke to my friends they got an email and video chat. Real classy. What happened to my Chevron of old. This does not happen 10 years ago.
