Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron has to go to trial for 9 billion settlement in Canada. Supreme Court rules 7-0 against Chevron.

This has finally come to a head and the money in on the plaintiff to win and take Chevrons assets. We have spent well over 2 billion to keep this out of court and lost. Rolling Stone had an interesting read on this case and Chevrons tactics. This is a bigger deal than most realize.

We have employees at Chevron who read the left-wing nut-job piece of trash that is what Rolling Stone, a once decent music industry rag, has become? That is much more disappointing than the Ecuadorian debacle. This type of situation is not unique to Chevron. Get over yourselves. In fact , CVX has a better track record internationally from an HSE standpoint than any other major. Why is this on the Layoffs forum? Are some of you "hoping for the worse? for those who are left deep inside your hearts instead of being grateful for a job? It's obvious that none of you have actually been laid of and on the street having to fend for yourselves. It's time to put on the big-boy and big-girl pants kiddies.

This case is a lot more complex than those who have posted realize. There are multiple cases in multiple jurisdictions. For example, Chevron currently has a RICO case proceeding in the U.S. This will drag out for several more years and won't hinge on a judgment in one country. The law firms we've hired are the only outside contractors that can make BCG jealous.

I believe what Anon 147943 is saying is that Ontario happens to be more liberal and anti-oil than other provinces in Canada, but apparently Anon 147981 missed the implied point. Anyway, yes, Watson did in fact lobby Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State on the Ecuador matter, and also made a large corporate donation (i.e Chevron money, not Watson's personal money) to the Clinton Foundation.............hmmmmmm......perhaps Mr Watson should read our Business Code of Ethics and Conduct once again.

Might actually want to read what the ruling was, rather than the dark fantasies of the OP.

BTW, Ontario is part of Canada, not the other way around...

This is another perfect storm for good old Chevron. They without a doubt used their huge cash flow to influence lobbyists, lawyers, defense funds. I remember a quote of a commentator saying as long as Chevron brings in 25 billion a year the not only control the time but buy the clock makers. Well no cash for old Chevron now! You will see tiny little dark Ecuadorians running rigs that the court seized. Yes this is a real threat. If Chevron looses this they are now looked at as weak. They threw everything at this not to get trailed and lost. They will loose this...it's not just in Canada but Ontario. Bad news for Chevron.
