Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

In today's world, Qualcomm is a really good company, in terms of compensation and industry leadership. However, in terms of working environment, this place sucks. Sorry, allow me to correct myself, this place sucks bad. As for any companies, there are stories from both sides. The market is always chasing the latest and greatest technology, (even more so, the most affordable and easy to adopt technical solutions). Over the years, Qualcomm has just got arrogant. Q is nothing different from any other companies in any other industries under current circumstance. Its earlier days well designed, patent portfolio has contributed to its long success (where all of its employees have benefit from, some employees, simply have benefitted more, or in some cases, much more than others. Is that "fair"? well, this is just life. Blame your own luck, if you are sour.) The TRUE issue is here, as any industry, the company needs to answer to the Wall Street, earning reports, OPEX, etc. So the company needs to constantly chasing for cost saving measures, lay off, etc. There is nothing foreign about it than any other companies. The executives are just doing what they "have to" do, or their own ASS is out. Simple as that. If you were in their shoes, trust me, same actions ordered by you (if you are capable). Organization wise, it is a REALLY F***ED UP place. "SILO" is no joke here. In any environment, there will always be some "unfitted" elements, few old timers, really should be optimized...Hey, there is no dummy here...Who won't want to try to stick around and fight for survival. THE REALLY PENALTY is, it will be difficult for any outside talents try to survive here. Therefore, in a long run, this place will go down for sure. As Jana suggests, Wall streets always chases a pure profit with a quick turn around. Wall Street folks are no dummy either, they fully understand the hand-in-hand business model, but what Jana doesn't like is, DRAGGING like Qualcomm is today, (a slow squeeze down) without a clear solution and a timeline attached to it. Q won't go away, but the good days are GONE. The coming era will not be easy (or pretty in any sense). My suggestion is, "guys, dolls, H1Bs, old timers, recent add-ons, MOVE ON; You are who you are, not because a company logo, or a so-called title on your business cards. For the guys, who are desperately trying to claim up the corporate ladder, you can choose to do what it takes, follow the game rules or SIMPLY move on". Good luck, people. It is a good site for venting, but it is rather unfortunate to see high IQ individuals producing impact-less alphabets. (including me sometimes). Best luck, folks. Be positive and make a difference.
