@Anonymous148773 yes your ex-VP is a fired guy, but look at it this way. There must be over 300 VPs at Qualcomm. Normal companies only have 20-30. So some of those 300 VPs are overrated (90% of Qualcomm's VPs are overrated). So he will need to have an attitude adjustment and rank demotion before he goes back to work, and that will really, really smart.

QC patent bubble is loosing air..it served QC well for last few decades but now it need re-innovate itself to compete or liquidate..Good engineers should not worry,they will find better jobs easily , idiots who thought QC was secure govt job will need to realign themselves to face this new reality...
Big deal. QC is a corporate patent troll. It doesn't matter if you personally massaged your VP's butt. If terminating your @$$ makes your VP look better, you are freakin' history, dude.
don't you just take some academic paper and tweak one little detail and patent it, because the school doesn't bother? boom, useless software patent. Or just patent something like swipe to unlock, and go "thermonuclear chemotherapy steve jobs war on android" for no good reason.
They use number of patents filed as a metric to determine who stays and who goes. Why do the think the senior managers are listed on so many of them. It is no secret 99% of the patents today are not worth the paper they are written on but investors don't know that. Like most things in big corporations it is all about being creating the illusion of value. Actually creating value is too much work and someone more senior would just take credit for it. Why author 1 good patent when you author 10 mediocre ones and get a lot more recognition, money, and job security. Play the game or you will be working for best buy soon.
