Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Expats

What's going to happen to expats working in the US? How about those working for a business unit stateside? It seems like a ridiculous waste of money to keep them here.

149579, you have a twisted mind. We don't need any bigotry here. So don't bring in racial talk, you bigot. Blacks are citizens of USA with same rights as everyone else. That is not the case with expats. They are here at the will and pleasure of Chevron. Understood?

Then ... If expats are not worth keeping... are Blacks worth keeping? Blacks need to be put on a boat and ship back to Africa. They're as expensive as keeping the expats under the Chevron radar

In my opinion, most expats will be going back to their home countries within 4-12 months. Whether they have a job is another story. There have been some in ETC and CBU already asked to go into enterprise ROM 2 to go back to home countries. There has been speculation/rumor that there will be a standalone must move PDC just for expats after the dust settles from the Alpha and Enterprise ROM currently underway. My money is that most expats are in a must move ROM/PDC in spring 2016.

Chevron doesn't care. They will continue to throw away money on expats. If you are onr of them, consider yourself lucky. If not, good luck! They will come after you to save money.

Let's not forget the many American expats in Australia, Angola, London, Caracas, etc. All who have a hefty salary, tax protections, and paid housing / company car / home leave airfare / private tuition for the children. Again, some are worth their high cost, others . . not.

Shouldn't our government require chevron to prove why an American can't do the work like all countries reciprocate?

149152, Where did you get the idea that expats make less? They take home more than twice as as you do as all their allowances and premiums are tax protected. Yes, some may work hard and some may be slackers. But they definitely are not worth what it costs to Chevron to keep them here. Under the current tough times, it makes sense to send them back to their home country.

Chevron planned to moved all expats home. It started several months ago. Some will stay because they are truly needed. But most will be gone. My personal friend was moved back to Austraulia with no job as ABU has no jobs.

I'm not sure that all ExPats or all Engineers necessarily work their asses off. Some work smart, some don't. Some work hard, some think they work hard. A title or profession doesn't say everything about a person.

Expats actually worked a lot harder that many of the people working at Chevron. US Engineer makes about 98k (entry level) while the expat gets about 75k and both work their ass off. So, where is the waste of money?

I suppose Expats working stateside will either be called "pats" or patriots or just plain ole employees, if they continue to work in the U.S. I suppose some will be redeployed overseas, some will retire or be layed off, and the fewer of them may remain pushing pencils or clicking away on the PC in the States.
