Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

I had an awesome break....

The weather was great and the water was warm... No sharks....And surf was decent...Taught my kid how to boggie board and then surfing at Torrey Pines. Finally dragged wifey that usually doesn't like to go in the water in as well. Nice to get away from all the bullshit at work...Wifey turned to me and asked me why I don't just retire early since we're doing ok...lol....really tempted to..Wifey made me think really hard...Somewhere, between the time of the Q back in the 90ies and the way it is now, people simply forgotten how to stop and smell the roses. I really don't give a shit what happens this week or next or the week after.neither does she....It's just a stupid job...And due to the expert financial management of my wifey, we don't have to put up with as much shit as perhaps others expect us to...And it's a great feeling to have, albeit I forgot about it in recent times... Whatever Q...Bring it on...Best of luck to everyone this week and next and for the rest of the month. Hopefully, all of you will come to terms with this...It's just a stupid job....

Anonymous149839, Funny you should mention that. I got an offer today Not bad. It will be comparable to what I was making at the Q before. Not quite as good if you factor in the previous Q bonus, but then again it's unlikely we'll see those bonuses again....

Right now it is generally difficult to find a job in San Diego as 100-400 applicants for one job is not an unusual occurrence. Making light of the Qualcomm axe about to fall is misguided. They don't give a damn about all the sacrifices you made to help the company.

Had the same blast last weekend. Magik in SD. Work is not like but is a major time burner. Thinking hard how to fix this, and I will for sure. Still young, put all RSUs in the house which is almost paid off. Wife works. Have cash reserves for 3 years... I think i will prescibe myself a dose of Fvckitall 500mg a day...

It's just a stupid job....So whatever happens this week, next, this month..Life goes on...Job isn't really a "life"....Funny how much the Q has changed since the beginning of time.

Great post!

Not everyone can retire but other companies still have good working environments. Look at the new software development companies, they have what we had in the 90's. Best regards to everyone, one day you will look back and see that whatever opportunity comes from this would never have happened if you had stayed at Qcom. It's partly your choice to trust that this will happen & embrace it after you get over the initial loss. I have gotten laid off 2x now in my career. It has led me to better opportunities both times....best wishes

I agree. Good luck to all of us. Even if I still need to work for a while longer, in the end it's just a job.
