Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Support Groups

Anyone hear how this reorganization and layoffs will affect support groups such as Asset Control, Planning & Scheduling, Clerical, Accounts Payable, A&OI and Procurement

Anonymous 150330, you are way off, try the complete opposite. The BU IT staff is very limited in knowledge and know how. They depend on the shared services IT staff for any in depth IT support. If they did get rid of shared services to keep BU IT staff I would love to see the chaos that ensues, it's like firing your surgeon and asking a candy striker to do brain surgery. Good Luck!

The analytics effort via information technology provide justification for a handful of roles but not the shared services information technology infrastructure. The majority of the shared services IT staff are completely unaware the BU IT staff exists. Collaboration is zero between the shared services IT staff and the BU IT staff. And the point, expect shared services IT to cease to exist via the increased independence of the BU IT.

Nope, much worse than proportionally terminated. Support staff, governance, etc - any group not directly associated with producing crude and natural gas - is going to get hammered. Much less planning, lower level of controls, less reporting - this is finally going to look like a lean independent upstream company. Technology 60% loss of positions. Tell me why you wouldn't expect the other support groups to be hit the same amount. At least Tech is somewhat tied to production.

Logically back office staff will be proportionally terminated and/or outsourced. And despite the legal implications, expect more contractors in the shared services roles.
