Samsung S6 Drops Qualcomm LTE Modem on AT&T phones?

So I guess some of us were right afterall. Samsung not only dropped the app processor from the S6 completely, but also dropped Qualcomm's LTE modem chip for AT&T S6/S6 edge, using their own 333 modem. Wow. This is a big deal. Because it means Samsung was able to pass certification here in the U.S. and pass carrier approval for one of the largest providers for their own LTE modem chip, which is a pretty remarkable achievement considering many of the previous LTE contenders weren't even able to get this far. Also, it's also a pretty big game to try this in the U.S. market on such a large carrier. If successful, this is really going to bite, as they use more of their own chips from their internal LSI group for next generation phones. The bundled deal that QC use to offer for app processor+LTE modem+connectivity is starting to fall apart. Just 2-3 years ago QC was king of the hill and the rest of the chip industry was in the tanks. Now, seems like the rest of the industry have caught up, and QC apart has caught a cold, just like the stock price. How volatile tech can be. http://www.phonearena.com/news/All-in---Galaxy-S6---S6-edge-carry-Samsung-Shannon-LTE-modems-Wolfson-DACs_id67880 Other notable items from the GS6 and GS6 edge's components list include a Wolfson WM1840 digital audio converter, as well as assorted chips from Broadcom, Skyworks, Avago, Maxim, and STMicro.

"So I guess some of us were right afterall." Does your arm ever hurt from patting yourself on the back so much?

For some reason, our short sighted management has always deluded themselves into thinking that LTE modem is some complex technology that no one can replicate. SS has well and truly called that bluff. More to follow soon. Meanwhile mollen"cough" is "pivoting" the company without a credible destination to pivot to. I don't see any alternative market that can replace lost revenue stream from smartphones in the near term. Therefore the writing is on the wall ...
