Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CHEVRON IS NOT LAYING OFF ENGINEERS AND SCIENTIST.

If you are an Engineer or Scientist, you have nothing to worry about. You have job security at Chevron.

That is wishful thinking to believe engineers and a scientist will be untouchable. Why not ask your HR representative?

If you're posting, here,... believe me, man,... you're not indispensable. You're exactly like everybody else,... afraid. And deep down, inside, you know it. And you know that any ONE of those contractors you whine about "mentoring" is just as good as you. Maybe better. Anyway,... you use poor grammar and your sentence structure sucks.

of course, we are all replaceable, but I disagree "the army of consultants out there are generally far more efficient". The army of consultants I work with are so inexperienced compared to me it is amazing. They have to ask me how to do their jobs several times a day and I cannot believe we hire such inexperienced contractors. I am constantly mentoring people in how to do their jobs. I could get more work done if these doofuses would stop bothering me. Maybe other teams have an army of superior consultants, but not my team. The high paid consultants should be let go to reduce the OPEX.

Great thread Flying mole! Been waiting a month for someone to bring this up. We believe part of the plan is to have Halliburton replace most of the engineering staff of the upstream employees. GOMBU SCM Gave Halliburton 9 out of 10 product service lines in August, In a "stratigic alliance"

You guys and gals all think that you are smarter, more valuable and worth more than other people. You have been indoctrinated and have begun to believe the BS. You are all replaceable, and the army of consultants out there are generally far more efficient at doing the necessary things in your job without all of the ridiculous salary and overheads. Wise up.

Yes, She is my mother in law. Her moim was hit by stray gunfire at the dry goods store close to the hardware store where things went down. Both were hit by the same round as her mother picked her up and was running for cover.

Wow, Anonymous152642, your mother was at Matewan back in 1920! She must have been 2 years old at the time, if she is 93 now. Was she really clipped by a 38 round?

Just saying... RJB

They are laying off engineers and scientists, mostly in ETC though, but also in the BUs incl. DWEP (7 engineers out of 56 employees) even though though DWEP did not have a ROM.

Scientists and engineers are graduating into the workforce at a rate of 50,000 a year.

Chevron's business is Oil and Gas, if you don't realize this you need to now. Good Engineers and Earth Scientist give the company a competitive advantage, without them there are no jobs for anyone else!

Valuable engineers and Earth Scientist are being let go and let me tell you, it's tough!

Unions are no good. They cost you more than they help. There was a purpose for them at one time but their welcome has expired. And where does it say that someone is "owed" a job and a certain wage regardless of their ability? No where but in unions, Government jobs, and socialist countries. Let the free market decide. If a young whipper-snapper can do as good of a job or better than I can for the same or less pay, or maybe they don't need a person with 25 years exp. to do what I do? - Good for Chevron. They are giving youngsters opportunities and making ends meet to keep more people on board and profitable. I don't value my paycheck that much. I shop at Walmart, LBYM, always have always will. Double my salary would not mean 2 scoops of sprinkles for me. I will always order 1 scoop, that's all I want and need, and they will bury me with one scoop. And I will enjoy that scoop way more than those who crave 10 scoops, because I never have craved 10 scoops. Probably because I know It's there if I wanted it. Or I can be a greedy ol' fart and deny that young whipper-snapper a much-needed job.
