The current layoffs in the industry is brutal. Every companies within the industry already make several rounds of layoffs. The personnel cut is deep to the bone. With the biggest talent burst in generations, can the oil and gas industry prepare and thrive during the next boom cycle?

That is exactly what is going on at Halliburton now. The field hands are NOT allowed to make any decisions of any kind on a job. They must follow the step by step procedure and if something does not go per the plan, shut down and call in. Unfortunately, they are calling people who have no experience. Those people have to call other people. Hope that cement doesn't set up before we find the answer. Procedures are being written step by tiny step. Some instructions are going to be made on video because the company is infested with so many illiterates. Amazing.

There will always be willing applicants who will take whatever pay is offered to them.
Yes if something goes south, the investigative team will conclude they should have had more experience. But if some tragedy does occur, management knows the company is toast anyway. So it doesn't really matter one way or the other. Chapter 11 is chapter 11. They are betting all in.

Worked in the field 40 plus years. Was laid off with 5 other field personal with 30 to 41 years service.
The new Halliburton is not concerned about experience . As long as the field personal follow halliburton best practices. Use adc use real time data.and call there supervisors about any change in job plan.
I see problems and cost correction on jobs that are a train wreck for the less experienced field personal.
Question If you had a choice between a pilot with 30 years experience or one with 3 years. And a train wreck started to happen .I would want the 30 year man with experience at the controls.
