Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Anyone informed today?

I was just delivered the news and the package. I was out of the office yesterday, so I am not sure if the plan was to notify yesterday. Anyways, I am negotiating on an offer and I'll leave QC in a couple of weeks. Guys, who are in the same boat, don't disclose you are being impacted to anyone, not even your close friends as that may harm your ability to negotiate in your future job.

It's better to let everyone know. Your chances will go up in finding a job when more people know.

Anyone who was terminated for ANY reason after the WARN Notice is included. However, if they gave you severance equal to at least 2 months pay, in addition to vacation, sick leave, etc., you don't have any damages.

I'm the OP, I didn't say employers won't hire you if you say you were laid off, that's FOOLISH. I said your ability to negotiate on the offer/salary may diminish. Good luck everyone.

You really think telling your close friends will hurt your chances of getting hired? That's silly. Your personal network is your greatest asset. Why would someone want to hire an employee who thinks asking for help or being honest is a sign of weakness?

It seems far more practical to be honest. If you're a good person and have a solid work ethic, there's no reason to keep your layoff a secret. Coworkers and friends should be happy to help you out and write recommendations and put you in touch with people that can help you. .

Being out on one of the biggest days is dumb on your part! Sounds like you have negative energies and should have been let go a long time ago.

So you're not gonna put "Q.." on your resume and you'd find an employer that didn't hear the news? Can't imagine why you RIF'd out.

Screw that, tell everyone. Finding a job is much more important than some foolish belief that a hiring manager would believe you aren't part of the RIF.
