Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

What won't you miss?

Name one thing that you will not miss about working for COP?

The over killed policies and procedures is the thing I will not miss at all.

The religious fanatics that we had in the Vietnam office.

I wont miss the religion. if staff put as much effort into work as they do into religion the company would be a much more profitable company. No offense, but I have a religion of choice already.

I wont miss the side notes on the safety presentations at town halls with numbers of contractors killed at work sites but ConocoPhillips continued to note zero work days lost to safety incidents. The contractors are people too.

Watching the "cool kids" gossip 1/2 the day away in their offices and complain about workloads to bosses so that others have to do their work. Weak bosses who accept this behavior by favoring cliques - yes they're gossiping about you too!

I will not miss the yearly ranking, which is still, and always has been, just a documented "good ole boy system" where favoritism is the "King".

I do not miss the drive to and from Bartlesville from Tulsa. A commute is one thing, but a commute to no where... Houston commutes are not easy but at least both ends of the commute end up in civilization (restaurants and all). Despite the illusion, the bbq in Bartlesville is not up to any standards. Far better bbq in Tulsa or Houston or Memphis.

United Way giving is by no means confidential. Corp Comms IT rep provides a list to each supervisor and organizational leader to see who has/has not given, then you are harassed to give in order to make a quota.

Don't you all know that nothing you do for COP is confidential? Lync messages are recorded (even if you think you're not saving messages). Phone lines are recorded...especially now, anything you do on the network is tracked.

United Way will not be missed. I did not live in Bartlesville but was pressured to given to the Bartlesville United Way each and every year. Attempts to direct the funds to the home United Way in Tulsa were met with disdain. And to think I thought the donation process was confidential.

I believe in supporting the community but I hate feeling pressured to donate to or volunteer for one event after another.

I will not miss the 20 minute "safety minute" at the start of the weekly two hour staff meeting. The weekly two hour staff meeting with 2 minutes of content.

Jim Mulva hired Luc not Fox. And Luc with his project empire cost the copy at least $10B dollars and that can be documented. It shows no matter how good the times you must run a good business model and unfortunately COP did not.

The food in the cafeteria is a health hazard. Management justified the poor quality via the poor pallet of the staff in Bartlesville. The light at the end of the tunnel is the other health hazard called Sonic.

I will not miss watching the senior managers undermine and back stab each other to accomplish their own ambitions. Now that half of them are gone, those remaining will at least feel safe for a few months.

Humm the worst part now is going to be the people that will be left. They will be expected to take on even more responsibilities from jobs that were suppose to be eliminated. How can you expect employees to be successful in a no will situation of taking on 3-4 people's jobs. We must eliminate positions and the duties that role had if we expect everyone to continue to take on more and more with each layoff they will leave there is only so much STRESS a human body can take.

incompetent Managers like Fox, hired people like Luc Messiar who didn't know one end of a project from another. Cost the company billions and gets a golden handshake as part of the good old boy network.

Tattle-tales, brown nosers, and Monday morning meetings at 8 a.m. Oh, and those "certain" people that you knew had literally skinned a skunk when you met them coming out of the restroom stall. We would always send out warnings when one "certain" person went in the restroom !! Don't go in there yet !!! Don't go in there yet !!! And, he thought his didn't stink ! Ha !

Yes the SPIRIT Awards are quite the farce. First and foremost the award cannot be awarded to a project not initiated by senior management. The college new hires winning the awards are handed the project on a silver platter.
