Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Q VPs all equally worthless

All Q VPs are equally worthless. You always believe they get where they are from hard work, natural talent, good lucky, whatever, but its who they end up being friends with. At Q Cronyism is the worst I've ever seen. People hired and put in management roles simply because they have the same religion, ethnic background, went to same college, whatever. Ability isn't even on the list of at least 90% of the VP and Director title holders. The title is less of a joke at other places like Intel and Broadcom, but even then similar rules apply. I have been impressed by VPs there, but absolutely none at Q, in fact anyone at Director or above has been awful. Read this board, the employees all know these guys are clowns and jokers.

i. don't know...but I will be willing to bet that this good (i agree) VPs promo to VP did not occur in the last 3 or so years... That's when QUalcomms upper management went right down the tube.. Promoting all Tom Dick and Harry without any valid justifications... At least that is what my observation has been... IMO, Most of the alleged corruption is in the LA leadership...But then again that is where I used to work and have most info.. Not much knowledge on other groups...

Agreed... Home grown VP that have risen to this level are the alleged corrupted ones... Getting promoted inspite of failure due to favoritism, nepotism, cronyism... Moatly based on longevity at Q. Pointing case ones promoted in last review cycle. These are the ones who have mostly worked here in QUALCOMM only and have not much exposure to the world outside Qualcomm. Hence agreed poisonous to Qualcomm's growth. Question is how is this going to be fixed if at all?

My boss is a VP and he is amazing. The problematic VPs are the ones who have been here longer and haven't seen the world outside of Qualcomm. Those are the poison to Qualcomm's growth. Your time of service at Qualcomm shouldn't dictate the title, but unfortunately that isn't true.

OP, don't let your anger and frustration blind you. Some of the VPs do have great technical strength and leadership. Great people will still be great no matter what their title is.

No argument there. The execs want unquestioning loyalty above all. Why take the risk with independent minded people. They can become a threat.
