It used to be that you could make your career @Q to look like anything you like, within your talents/capabilities. After this cut, it'll be way different for a lot of people, I would think. It's not at all a similar company that it was in 10-20 years ago.

I think u missed the point man... Yes my lead tried his best (not my manager), does and did the right thing.. But not at all happy how needlessly hard the process is made....There should be some clear guidelines IMO to which employees can strive towards.

"In my experience, nobody could define what it would take to get a promotion. "... I second that... No clear guidelines for promotion (regardless of how hard or smart you work) ... My manager clearly stated that there is none that he is aware of... My lead keeps pressuring me to give him a name of a freaking director that will supposedly " vouch" for me in the review board... In other words, give him a name of a director whose ass i (should have) kissed and who is guaranteed to vouch for me... Talk about corruption and cronyism at its peak....

Definitely Qualcomm is a full time working environment meaning 24/7. If you're looking for working 8 hrs/day as part time, go some place else.

In my experience, nobody could define what it would take to get a promotion. Nobody. You must be "in the club" or you are a layoff target. Productivity is irrelevant. If you like to build products, go someplace else becuase this place constructs patents. Period.

The politics make it awful. You'll spend all your time trying to figure out how to do your job well without pissing anyone off so badly that you become a target. The key is to be competent enough that you can live with yourself but not so competent that you are a threat to management. It's all about flying below the radar.
