CPMM: Chevron Project Mis-Management Fun and Games!

Alright, folks, everyone on this site has one thing in common: we are all pissed off with Chevron. So, instead of tearing each other down, let's pull together and have some fun for a change. Share your favorite accounts of past and current idiotic Chevron project activities. There is an embarrassment of riches in this area, so share the wealth! I'll even offer a prize for the top three stories! And, please, boys and girls, no flaming or back biting of each other in your posts, such as"Anonxxx, you've never worked on rigs, or done blah, blah, blah...", or anything else that sounds remotely like something your whiney, smartass, gum smacking young teenage girl cousin would pop off with. Enjoy!

Where do you start, indeed! Notice how every Chevron MCP always has a follow up project that is labeled "enhancement", "expansion", "upgrade", or some such bullsh*t euphemism. It's another word for "boy, we really screwed that up, so we better get another group of our EPC buddies to come in and fix it". Some projects have two or three of these over 5-10 years. The projects come online, with limited production, then limp along while massive CAPEX is spent on brownfield upgrades. Oh, yes, folks, very safe way to operate!

Were do you start?

Agbami - good for production, shite at execution - over 1 million manhours of carryover sent offshore. Safety first right???

Maf Sul - another SASBU cluster - over 2 million manhours of carryover sent offshore. That bad that cable trays weren't even installed. No that would have to be the embarresment of the decade.

Wheatstone Upstream - sailed away to meet the weather window, good point. But had that much carryoer work, it still won't be finished until the next weather window. Might as well had stayed in the yeard to finish the work.

CGPe - the Project to fix CGP because they didn't get the functional spec correct. e stands for enhancement.

ALNG - do I need to comment??

The list goes on

CBRES projects? Well, I suppose that's a decent start. How about the real killers, such as Gorgon, Wheatstone, Big Foot, CDB, ALNG, and my personal favorite, EGTL? C'mon, folks! Are there any balls left among you, or have you already handed those away to your local HRBP?

What is going on at the Bellaire facility? It looks like the area is being cleared. Another building? More parking?

We need the Katy land for a new research facility, more than a 3rd downtown tower.

CSOC feedback has always been a joke, especially when there is a quota to be met. Totally useless activity.

Chevron is a pissant company where incompetent management has no clue what their underlings are doing. That is why they use bullshit metrics such as "attendance" and RSIP compliance to evaluate technical staff instead of actual ability and contributions. The manager of my group sees the layoff as an opportunity for early retirement, with a year of salary as a bonus. Pigs feeding at the trough, I say.

Covington was built with the intent to consolidate into one building at a future date. It's the recent investment in the land next door that will payoff as the office park expands and grows.

I wonder what the total hard dollar cost has been so far on the third/new office building downtown Houston plans. I'd also like to see how much empty space will be costing money in the new Midland office and the fairly new Covington building (or in this case the net loss from building cost to sell cost if included with other asset sells). And do we throw in the recent land purchase in Katy? I'm sure there are other CBRES moves in the last 2-3 years. They may not add up to billions, but the combo of millions and sheer short sidedness has to make a top twenty list.

Does AMBU count as a project? It sure has been run like one, or at least a Chevron project...

How about Rosebank? Talk about a real cluster! Over 2 billion was thrown at that sucker, mostly on years of subsurface study before somebody decided to pull the plug, and for what reason? Subsurface uncertainty! And guess what? All those earth scientists are still working in Houston, London, and Aberdeen! Baaaahahaha baba booey!!!
