Health coverage/open enrollment

Health coverage for most laid off ends october 31.

Nov.1 is open enrollment for health care coverage. Don't forget to look into this if you are unable to get health coverage through a new employer. Why? Tax penalties for being uninsured. They are set to go up to $695 this next year.

Some individual plans are tax credit eligible. I found one comparable to what I have until the 31..but damn cost can be prohibitive. I mean, depends on your priorities. But if affording health care means not eating, then whats the point.

Anyone has suggestions of where else and what to look for that is decent but affordable? I cannot afford to be without insurance too long as I have an autoimmune disease that is destroying my kidneys and have to be on certain meds and continually monitored.

I found COBRA, which you can have for 18 months, was way cheaper than Obamacare. $200 compared to $369.

Paying the penalty is cheaper than healthcare.gov

I am paying almost 1,000 for my family to be covered.

Dear 180974, my heart goes out to you especially. Please, look into Medicade as a possible solution for temporary health coverage. From what I understand, they have many categories, and having a medical diagnosis maybe your golden ticket. I know in my state, you can hire free advocates, that will go up to bat for you. It's worth checking out. Best of luck to you.

Yes, ive been looking everywhere for the best options to fit my particular situation. Its such a hot mess. Once I find something that seems resonable...lo and behold, docs dont take that insurance. (Not their fault..many of the discounted plans out there do not pay the doctors well. I have a really great team that has been conservative, reliable and trustworthy when it comes to my health, so I simply cannot bear to lose that kind of service and repor).

I'm just a bit overwhelmed by it all. Stress doesnt help either. It just sucks

.without the insurance and access to medication I need, I struggle to be able to work. Then having to trying to find a job with medical benefits that I dont have to wait 6m-1y for? Ugh.

Some days I just wish I never woke up in the first place, or at all.

Thanks for the input.

As much as I am not a fan, have you gone to Healthcare.gov to see what the Affordable Care Act has to offer?
