Many amazing people were in the layoff, nothing to do with performance. If you find yourself in that situation in the current market and you are offered a job at AEP or a spinoff, you too might just accept a position. There are some brilliant folks at AEP doing just fine, or at least equally as fine as you! People need to feed their families. You would do the same.

Doubtful. If they were stupid enough to join either of those companies thinking they were bettering themselves - there was a real good reason they were laid off! lol.

Why not? Loolaid is a powerful substance. Only the bitter sting of betrayal a mass layoff provides can cut through it.
