Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Morale permanently damaged

I cant see how this company will survive. Most of the best got out by volunteering or getting a new job. Morale is so bad now, it borders on unbelievable. Having been through other company layoffs its obvious mostpeople have been spoiled here and have never faced adversity in either their personal or professional lives.

Sorry, you didnt know the truth. The people making the decisions on high dont care about you. You are simply a resource, row well and live.

  1. At UCSD, we made a drink called Guyana Punch. We used Everclear rather than cyanide. I suppose today we might say "too soon". However, college students strive to offend. I was really a terrible drink.

182145, were you even alive when Jim Jones was alive? He killed his followers with Flavor Aid and cyanide not Kool-Aid and cyanide.

182055, Qualcomm was my life for years. Unfortunately, you did not plan while Qualcomm was your life for the past 10+ years. Going forward, I hope you plan better.

Qcom was my life. I do not know what to do now. I never had any other job since graduating from college. I did not save much money through the past 10 years so may need to move back in with my parents. And my girlfriend has left me. Thanks, cruel world!

181917, time makes memory fade. PJ was not involved with CBS. PJ led QCP when it was sold to Kyocera.

Execs tell what they need to until their real business is complete. Most of us older Motorolans have been lied to for years and Q is no different. Look at them now since they broke up. Q is following the same model.

Many of us remember PJ telling employees CBS was not up for sale a company wide meeting. It was sold to Ericsson less that a month later !!

Agree with most people here. Q was sought after for innovating and providing meaningful careers. Latest string of events really show the ugliness of doing business and how low they have gone to keep the wealthy wealthier. Latest email about only rewarding lower level engineers and only in certain groups makes the rest of the employees feel sick. I hope people find jobs elsewhere (especially the talented senior guys) where they will get respected and appreciated.

Couldn't agree more with OP, especially the folks outside of SD, it will be constantly looking over their shoulders and waiting for the inevitable(unless you're in QIPL or China ) !

Such a shame for the young engineers who dreamt of having a meaningful career and growing through ranks, but all there is now, is shitty politics!

It's sad to see a company that people admired once, become a laughing stock.

Qualcomm has had times when the employees felt like they were just resources: when CBS was sold to Ericsson and when QCP was sold to Kyocera. While both these were different from now in that they were sales of divisions and not company wide culling, the sale of CBS did require something similar to company wide culling.

@Anonymous181736, did the employees who remained really care about the ones thrown overboard? their stock options jumped, so I'd think morale would have improved immediately in the form of a new BMW.

From both, Qualcomm recovered to the point that most likely do not even remember that they happened.

Please stop the whining! You all have had a good ride at Qcom for all of these years, making millions of dollars. Just move on.
