Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Man, things seem to be moving quickly

I have been keeping a close eye on this slippery slope upon which WF finds itself.

from what i can tell, my area wasn't hit so hard by the layoffs, but i can already see signs of the turmoil.

shelves messy and pricetags missing? i have gotten money refunded like three times now because they can't bother to put a correct tag on this pricey coconut manna i buy.

hot foods bar is a joke now, i can't believe what WF is offering for 8.99/lb. vegan rollantini and dry, canola, laced greens? i used to have options as someone with food allergies, but they have dwindled to nil. it's all low-quality, GMO-infested horseshit.

bulk candy being repositioned for greater visibility in a store that already has: bakery (with disturbingly-frosted cupcakes, jesus sometimes less is more), bulk cookies, bulk 'healthy' candy, and tons of packaged sweets. re

the meat department is already sliding, they can't even sort out their ground meats and are removing regular inventory.

i dunno, i think the downfall is going to be epic

@sept- mind meld! In an earlier post I said we are Starbucks from ten years ago. Only we don't have a Howard Shultz to step back in and fix the mess.

Oh this will definitely be a case study at business schools for sure. And probably a movie... a horror movie!

they gotta raise prices first to lower them back to the original price point so it seems they lowered the prices...shell game capitalism...who remembers in like 2008 or 2009 when starbucks had to close like 150 locations?? does anybody smell something like this??

PS - 'lower prices' and their supplements are still double amazon's price

some people who shop at WF actually have health troubles and MUST seek out clean food. do we really deserve to be raped at checkout?

There are no cash registers at central or regional offices! Do we really need all those highly paid team members at regional offices?

sorry if you have been affected. i have met some dum WF employees, but i never blamed them for the brand's failings (which are many).

i compare WF to Apple when it comes to image - they both have a large number of SHINY stores now, stores which must somehow stay funded as people realize that the brand is smoke & mirrors in many ways. as customers see them sliding closer to the average 'nice' supermarket, what's left to make us feel special for paying rip-off prices? alas. amazing to have watched it ha starting with Bread & Circus near my home in 1998, what a rise & fall!!

This is what happens when- instead of having the upper management (the RPs, RVPs, CFO) remove themselves from the company, after having done nothing to be competitive and proving truly absent, harmful leadership- a company begins to cut costs by starting at the store level. One reason this is a dangerous decision is that the store level is the only visual with that the customer interacts. If this is the new normal for customers- barren shelves, overworked team members, poor service- where is the competitive edge? Lower prices are still to be seen. Another reason this was such a dangerous decision is that now the core of the company, its team members, no longer trust upper management. They have lost any integrity they have had with team members and not surprising. What a case study for economics and corporate ethics classes, for years to come. Just is sad to personally see and know hardworking people living through this.
