The point of making the HW cheap is to drive OS market share from Apple.

@Anonymous183473, android isn't free, ARM license isn't free. How could HW be given away nearly free? Ad supported transistors?

Maybe google will buy them and then make the chips nearly free, open source. Would be good for the market but bad for QCT employees.

I also could see Apple buying QCT and then closing the doors so they can hurt existing android manufacturers.

QCT has v large market share. The rational is not to acquire bleeding edge technology but rather to acquire customers. QCT will be put to rest and the few employees who are retained by Intel or Huawei will be transferred to Santa Clara or Shenzhen.

No one will buy it. What is there in QCT chip biz? ARM cores, an ok DSP, and a less than Nvidia GPU. Without the CPU team (Scorpion, Krait, Kryo) the chip biz is yet another ARM knockoff, I give you the Samsung loosing 810 verses the Samsung winning 820. What's the major difference? The CPU. The CPU team is now in DCG and not part of QCT. Why buy?

I agree with 691, QCT is a huge drag to the share price right now. Sell to Intel or highest Chinese bidder and the share price will go up quite a bit. PJ can order a new jet and QCT engineers will have new slave masters. This is long overdue if you ask me.

Intel is in the run for QCT. The deal is verbal right now, will be inked and signed by Q1 2016. I'm an insider. Expect share price to hit $85 or so.

I don't care of layoffs, as long as I keep kissing my director's ass

this is NOT a rumor or confidential info, Q already indicated they were looking at this option. If it happens this quarter though, expect lots of headcount trimming in the spring, especially on the QCT side.
