Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell Services is no longer paying out severance to employees they layoff

Your severance used to be based on you years of employment.

to get around their own policies they are now not doing a "RIF". Instead, they are taking away your position and letting you sit on the bench for 30 days(or it might be 60 depending on locale) then they tell you good bye. no severance. Effectively your severance is that 30 days, but from what I have heard they don't inform you that that 30 days is your last, they act like you are between projects. so instead of a RIF or layoff they are considering it that your position no longer exists... basically some HR loophole till they can change their policies officially I guess?

I have been at Dell for a long time. They have taken away raises, taken away bonuses, taken away medical benefits(via changing the plans and upping what we pay) etc etc. Now they are finding ways to avoid their own severance policies. This company is a shitty place to work and they are driving it deeper. I stomached it for so long but after hearing(and confirming) they are gonna shaft people out of their last safety net, I am outta here. I can only imagine that vacation days will go down next.

I just received a severance package that was more generous than the ones offered during the mass layoffs of 2014. Sorry you had such a bad situation, but your conclusions are totally false. Also, they just increased paid time off from a total of four weeks to a total of five weeks for every employee starting in 2017.

A sale to Wipro makes sense. Why else would MD leave Suresh in charge of Services?

Yes, this is for real. And just to confirm this is in the USA, what was perotsystems, not overseas.

There is another rumor that to pay for EMC, perotsystems, will be sold to a company like wipro.

wipro makes sense, since one of the wipro execs got a job at the top of dell services, and has been brining his buddies in. likely to make the transition easier.

This might also be a tie in to the new layoff method as in India they don't give severance as I understand it(but the employees over there change jobs at the drop of a hat anyway). And another reason to believe that perotsystems will be sold is that they are doing this type of stuff thus don't care about public image and attracting new employees.
