Why are they promoting contractors but firing Chevron employees?

Nice thought, but every contractor I know who has worked for Chevron in an HES role has been terminated three months ago. That includes myself, and I was a 30 year employee in HES before retiring in 2007. Did not matter how well we did our job, we were let go. Between losing a lot of company history and multiple decades of experience, we were gone. The shame of it is that with the ROMs, a lot of senior folks with that type of experience base are also going, and these are people who are really good in their jobs. But at least they will get rid of some of the folks who sit in Corp and headquarter offices who have not gotten their hands dirty in the field.

Because contractors are the one actually doing the work.

Contractors told me they couldn't afford to work for Chevron as an employee.

Let's be honest, HES is a bit of mamby pamby land. Did you really think that degree would propel you to greatness? It's a notch above an HR degree if you ask me, which is on par with being a kindergarten teacher.

184313...employee costs are salary plus benefits, which often makes true employee costs almost double their salary. $150 hour for a contractor really isn't that bad from an accounting perspective, especially if we are talking about a skilled professional.

That is exactly what happened. Guess who will be paying the price?

It's Chevron's management's fault! The managers over hired to build their kingdom and now it's imploding.

Not so much at $150 an hour.

Contractors give kickbacks.

I've noticed a theme on this board. It's always someone else's fault.....never their own.

Because they are not little whiney-baby millennial stereotypical Chevron new-hires who cost a fortune and think that the world owes them a living. Contractors understand that if they do not perform up to par, then they will get cut in a NY second. It's basically a win-win. Gosh-darn it sucks to have to work for a living!
