Really it gets down to 2 things: he hasn't done anything with QCT. We are a one trick pony with snapdragon SoC with its tarnished reputation due to the 810, which was released under MR's "leadership", mind you. So you can thank him for that. Second mistake is focusing so much time/energy trying to penetrate low-mid tier markets when the Chinese are already f***ing us and we can't really beat the Chinese to the bottom of the barrel. China doesn't have to worry about silly things like employee benefits, insurance, patents, copyrights, licensing, etc. We as industry leaders need to be paving the path to new tech, not trying to gobble up the scraps.

Can somebody just spell Irwin correctly. Thanks much!
Murthy had to go. Amon should also have been chucked out. Yes, no reason why one gets promoted. But Murthy was Miserable. So is Steve M. I dont know about Paul, but Erwin was the most deserving. The company has fallen apart like expected with massive hiring from the streets.
OP, you are still focusing external factors and keep assuming that Q has the best tech. Do you honestly believe that? What was the last product that actually made you feel excited? what was the last product that actually made the market excited? How many employees in Qualcomm actually create value for the company? Is that possible in Chinese or Korean company?
CA must take the blame for focusing energy on low-mid tier. Remember he was the co-prez responsible for product strategy and business development, not MR. Again, how is it justified to promote one failed executive while demoting the other is beyond me. Accountability is something that was always an alien concept in QC.
OP
What you say is Not true. Saying he has not done anything to QCT is gross understatement. if he has not done anything , he will not be made President. he has many things that were done sucessfull.
