Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

QServer

I've always been curious about our intentions to enter the server world. I'm not looking for specifics, but do you think we can take a chunk out of Intel with our ARM tech? I find this project interesting and if it hasn't been gutted and isn't complete junk would probably attempt to move laterally in the company to contribute.

@EFgmAUk-1lDI. Lots of talent on the server hw teams, brought you scorpion, krait and kryo, Raleigh put QC apps processor on the map and responsible for the last 10 years worth of growth. GY is the sw side, the googles, face books and others are interested in the hw not the sw. I'd be concerned about the loss of RT in December, he has always been a shield for Raleigh not having to deal with the politico of QC SD. Don't forget GY and TC build the initial SW dream team, KB SG JS NR MG KS.

At this point, it is going to be major challenge for management to separate deadwood from good talented efficient folks. Most of these high performers are sort of given up on Q and are already polishing their resumes. Only a matter of time before they leave. Management cannot control anyone and have them work dedicatedly. Personally I see pretty much everyone working in 9-5 mode regardless of projecr deadlines...

We have been talking of servers for last 3 years with nothing to show. Server only exists on powerpoint in QC. Let alone Intel, there are smaller players like Cavium who are already into ARM server space. Unless QC acquires such companies (and lets go of some more internal deadwood), I dont see how QC can beat the competition.

well with current arm tech it can't, right now all the interrupts have to go through hypervisor (as per arm architecture), thats a major bottleneck for getting good network throughput, its so obvious flaw i dont know what was arm smoking

Google is nowhere near their own chip design, why do you think intel is making money hand over fist? Because of google, facebook, etc. facebook is a fvcking joke, they are supposed to to be brilliant in sw but cant even get that right

OP here, go to google news and search Qualcomm Server. There was an announcement about a month ago that Q is developing a 64 core ARM CPU designed for servers.

I really want to see that chip built by Facebook, they cannot format CSS on their site, not to mention something as sophisticated as a chip. What a global fraud that company is

low value work that can easily be sourced to Bangladesh or New Delhi. Sounds like a good fit for QCs new strategy

When it come to servers, QCOM doesn't bring anything to the table that any other ARM chip licensee couldn't.

The biggest thing holding back everyone in the server space is the software that needs to be ported to ARM. Once that's available, there's plenty of other companies that will compete int the same space with QCOM.

No, we won't. Rumor has it that Google and Facebook are building their own chips. They have "committed" to use Q chips, but that doesn't mean much. Facebook is already hiring HW and SE engineers for their ARM server division. Google is ramping up as well. Moreover, Gary Yurcak, the douche on QServer, is a retard and a control freak. He can't get shit done.

Sounds too good to be true at QCOM. If such a project existed, QCOM most likely gutted it because -- JANA, SM, & c. decided that, unlike miniature TV, brew, proprietary Linux, and other tragic mistakes, there was not enough profit in it.
