Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Who's to Blame for the layoffs and labor budget cuts?

After laying off some of the best TMs I've ever worked with "they" cut our labor budget again and put a freeze on hiring full time TMs. "We" are replacing them with part-time TMs with no benefits and no reason to stay with the company. When they get offered a $13 dollar/hour full time job they will go. Meantime, TLs and ATLs are bogged down in a cycle of re-hiring for positions occupied by full-time, competent, long serving TMs who never call out and are rarely late. When you can't staff your counters properly or stock your shelves during the holidays AND your comps are down, that means you screwed up on a very strategic level. Customers are mad because conditions are poor and they can't talk to Jack in produce who got laid off a couple months ago. TMs are scared and mad too. Gainsharing is being eliminated by labor budget cuts. Meanwhile, "they" still open stores and plan for more AND have a huge Corporate Office Building being built on Bowie ST. in Austin, TX. Sorry about the rant. Want to say hi to all WFM TMs that have been with the company for a while in all regions! Stay strong and keep commenting on this forum.

Ken Meyer is definitely one to blame, among many others.

The B in H.E.B. stands for "Butt".

Get ready for ButtWhole Foods.

@EIlsgKK-any, Comps do not go up during the holidays, sales do. You were correct on the other aspects of labor budgets.

Isn't HEB a private company? How would this work, could anyone speak to this?

I have it in good authority...global office staff...that on Jan 4 WFM will announce that they are being purchased by HEB...the sale will take a few months to complete but is currently being structured . No more layoffs. Just a sale off ... Fair warning ... Be ready

With that said, I do agree that building a corporate office is uncalled for and a waste of money. Global hq never looks full and whenever I've been there for training related sessions it's full of dude bros who hang out by the free allegro coffee bar.

Labor budgets go down during the holidays because your comps go up. Then they expand during slower months so you can afford to stay staffed. The math works out the same. This has been an ongoing thing and unrelated to the layoffs.
