Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Lucky's Market!

Quite a few folks from the Rocky Mountain region starting jumping ship to Lucky's Market a long time ago. These are people who would have known this storm was coming. They are a smaller similar model to Whole Foods except they do things the right way and probably won't drive their company into the ground with blatant ignorance the way Whole Foods did. They are a smaller grocer from Boulder who is expanding right now and have a lot of good people working for them. The vibe of Lucky's is a lot like Wild Oats was and Alfalfas IS. Real. Good people. No BS. I don't work for Lucky's, I've just been looking into it and have shopped there for many years. If Whole Foods is what you know and you need to find a job with your skill set, it is a good place to look because of all the positions they have available. They are even hiring Store Graphic Artists and Marketers. I know a lot of people I work with at Whole Foods are trying to deny the elephant in the room and staying loyal to their stores and teams. I think they just need to feel like it still matters and means something. They will be severely let down when the big hammer drops and they are abandoned and left scrambling for work along with all the other unemployed Whole Foods Team Members that have the same skill set. The ship is sinking and a lot of Team Members are happy to go under with it. Then the job market will be flooded with unemployed Whole Foodies and you will have to compete for these positions that are available now. Get out now, don't let these corporate monkeys waste another second of your life and talent.

What?!? The Publix I worked at years ago had more front end employees into coke and acid than any of the restaurants I worked at afterwards.

I worked at Whole Foods. I also worked at Lucky's. Whole Foods has definitely become terrible, but Lucky's is even WORSE. Picture all of the least-competent, Peter-Principle Whole Foods supervisors with delusions of grandeur getting actual leadership positions with no training ... that's Lucky's. Stay away.

Post at top sounds like somebody shilling for Lucky's wrote it. Are we going to have every HR from every grocery company in the country doing little op-ed pieces here?

I am down here in FL so I look forward to some tool from Publix posting here. They are rooted in right-wing evangelicals, are privately held, and based out of small-town Florida. But they are hugely successful with a ton of stores. How would their HR spin it? This is going to be a tough one: short hair on men, no beards, no ink or piercings, prayer meetings, very conservative and antidrug...

Any takers?

The point is, a lot of people on here have concerns about life after Whole Foods with retail grocery being their only skill set. This is a better option rather than waiting around on a sinking ship. Also, it provides a way out for those who only have this specific skill set. As for long term, no one in the grocery industry will be on top forever. Whole Foods shouldn't have had a problem staying on top, but they blew it. Whole Foods is now a good example of how NOT to do it and our failure will only help others grow to be more successful.

It's still retail, what's your point?

Lucky's. I've heard of them. They got some pretty poor glass door reviews over the last couple years. Guess why? Too rapid of expansion caused problems with training and infrastructure. BS rising to the top at the expense of the honest. Sound familiar? With a similar structure to Whole Foods, how long do you think the greatness can last? I say go for it if you think it's the right move for you but let the buyer beware.
