People, protecting the dividend protects Mr. Lance's compensation (at least somewhat). You really think he's in this for anybody but himself? Are we?? Hate to marginalize, but most of us would be doing the same thing in his position. Before you accuse me - I WAS laid off this prior year

Keep the dividends up.

Particularly if you own a lot of stock.

Slowly squeeze the money out of the company until it goes into a nose dive.

Then jump out of the door with your golden parachute.

1xqq - And do you know WHY you are seeing all of that non-work activity? It is because COP got rid of all of the loyal, hard-core workers. What's left is a bunch of entitled young people who are addicted to social media & "networking" with expectations of promotions soon. Oh well, why should they be loyal to COP when they see COP is not loyal to anyone.

Preserve those dividends at any cost. Who needs employees?

I would say there is still fat to cut... When I take a quick walk through the cubes, at any given moment 60% of people are either on facebook, Communicator/Skype, or texting away on their phone. Also, that ridiculous ergomics software that demands the user to take a break after, what seems like, every 15 key strikes... Completely destroys productivity.

Really guys, if we had no investors, there would be no work. When I invest my money I like to have some returns.

That is right! Hang on to those investors! Keep the company alive; otherwise there will be no-zero-zip employees...

Whew, I thought they might cut the dividend. I feel better now! I'm staying on the ship; hold COP.
