Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Profits from Business Units Sucked Into Bad MCPs Overseas.

The nightmare multi-years Major Capital Projects (MCPs) have been sucking up dry profits from operating business units. Just poor executives' high-risk decisions like Las Vegas gambling.

MCPs may be the future for Chevron, so long as they turn out to be like Gorgon and Wheatstone.

MCPs are the future of Chevron. Operations are literally scraping the barrel in dying business units.

The truth is that neither MCP or OPS do their jobs as well as they should. Losers like to put the blame on the other parties, instead of taking responsibility for themselves. So, everyone in this discussion sucks, except for the realist here (me).

Hey Dick, better understand quickly that the company doesn't revolve around MCPs alone. You worry about your end and everyone else will worry about theirs. Capish?

You must work in Operations. I work within MCP's, so here is another perspective. How about Operations start taking the development of MCP projects more seriously, and help them get completed on time? Get involved earlier, and quit acting like MCP's are in your way, or are a nuisance. Getting Operations support during MCP execution Phase 4 is like pulling teeth. Do you not understand these new facilities are to increase production? To PROVIDE OPERATIONS JOBS? We MCP project people always feel like the red-headed stepchild, it is difficult to get Operations involved. I can't even count the number of times that Operations and their inspectors screwed around and wasted my team's time, even when we had expensive vessels offshore on standby waiting for them.

And while you are casting stones, how about you take some of the responsibility for piss-poor maintenance of currently operating facilities. We MCP projects people always get sucked into designing and upgrading systems that were neglected by the Operations teams. What, you don't think maintenance cost CVX any money?
