What does "expatriate employees and US business units" mean? They will do a resource adjustment exercise and bring expats back to fill up vacant positions? How about expats in USA?

today's message from our dear colleague Jay Johnson, Executive Vice President, Upstream: "reduce Chevron's workforce by 6,000 - 7,000 people from end of 2014 to the end of next year." which is interesting since it seems to imply that the previous 1,500 are included in that number. "we will conduct an enterprise selection process in the first quarter of 2016, details of which are currently being developed, but will largely focus on expatriate employees and U.S. business units."

In the end, when the last wave of layoffs is finished, lots of HR personnel will be let go as well. I hope the least caring of them get caught off guard.

These smug and arrogant HR people don't appreciate the word "Human" in their job title. I do believe everyone reaps what they sow in this life. Everyone still working at Chevron should anonymously send that simple reminder to their HR office in a plain envelope.

My HR guy was joking around about laying people off with my boss when they were about to lay me off in front of me. I didn't really care because I knew he was a jerk (HR guy), but it seemed a bit unprofessional. At least he's not my HR guy anymore (once he sends my COBRA paperwork to ADP).

A Chevron HR Manager stated (on video) that the Severance Package is a benefit. The only thing to be determined is it's annual constituency/value. While possible, it is highly unlikely that the 2016 package will be less than the 2015 was, with a real possibility of it being more.

Yes, Chevron HR couldn't find their ass with a map. It seems when you ask a HRBP a rather simple question, you get a vague answer or a puzzled face. When they tell you they'll get back to you with a response, they take too long. Seems like no one wants to take responsibility for the answer. I remember the years (15 yeas ago) when HR Busness Partners were easily accessible and were more friendly. Today, they are hidden away in a wing of the building and when you pop in to see someone, they seem so indisposed at that moment. It's obvious HR works for management, not every employee.

I can't agree more, Ms. Cleo. HR better get their act together next time. I disagree about the change in terms for the severance. Two weeks per year (8 weeks minimum and 52 weeks max) has been the standard severance in Chevron for a long time. Of course, there's no law that says any company must pay a severance to laid off employees. They don't have to pay anything, but I wouldn't expect any changes.

I predict they won't give the same severance terms this time. Also, HR needs to get its act together this time.

CVX has already laid off the first 1500 in October-November. They have also announced plans to lay off another 6000-7000. Get your resumes brushed up! Their cutting sometimes follows zero rational logic, nobody is safe. http://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/30/chevron-to-cut-workforce-by-6000-to-7000.html
