Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The NY AG is really after Verizon - now they are crowd-sourcing speed data to sue VZ (www.VentureBeat.com)

Schneiderman, the NY attorney general is crowd-sourcing speed tests to see if Verizon is scamming customers - VZ is not the only one that's being targeted, they will go after Comcast and TimeWarner Cable (good luck with that) - yet, this is very interesting as they will be gathering data from users real time and it'll be interesting how things will be panning out here - I am sure there is a ton of pissed customers out there. If found guilty, the fines will be debilitating. GREAT. I am glad someone watches these people.

Here's your speed of 100/100 but we mean "up to" which could be ZERO to 100. I would be ok with that if the billing was the same way. Here's your monthly check between ZERO and 100% of what you wanted.

Lilfe's a compromise right?

GOOD FOR NYC REGULATORS!!

You always get more speed that what you are paying for on FiOS so good luck with finding anything there. Even via wifi the speed is higher than what you are paying for. Anyone who is getting less should have a tech come out and have their fiber end connections cleaned.

I'm here using ethernet from the fiber drop on 25/25.

I get 25/25 even. It is great!

That's interesting. I'm on Verizon FiOS with a 50 Mbps up/down plan. With the router they give you, I got maybe 20 both ways. When I upgraded to a WRT1900AC using Ethernet from the fiber drop instead of Coax, my speeds jumped up to 50+ up/down, everywhere in the house.

I wonder if their routers are restricting internet speed deliberately so they can avoid actually having to upgrade their infrastructure, but still be able to offer speed to power users who buy their own routers.

Every internet provider I've had advertised their rates as "up to [Insert Speed] Mbps", but none ever really delivered. Upgrading never guaranteed increased speed, just increased expectations.
