795, I never knew that chickens could "roust". I always knew they could roost, but it appears from your post that they are capable of multi-tasking... ;-) All jokes aside, the US was, and continues to be created by folks from everywhere in the world, and so was Chevron.... until recently. Once you become a nationalistic thug, your growth dries up right alongside your creativity.

That is like paying high premium for diversity. Not a great business model especially in hard times.

Anonymous189430, don't get me started on "Diversity". Forced diversity is what you are implying. It has never been and will never be a strength anywhere that kind of diversity is implemented. Chevron went overboard and in the wrong direction with this for many years. Chevron's chickens are now coming back to roust.

+1 for 189654. It is a joke that Chevron is even sitting on a low-hanging fruit like that. Send the H1Bs back home and let the American citizens keep their jobs.

One employee's daughter thought it was a good idea to show his earnings from overseas work on Twitter. Dumb kid thinks it smart to say for every month on month off dad makes...

If dad can not control his stupid kid he need to work some place else. Good news is His managers about to pull the plug on all this.

498, very well said! It is a no-brainer to first send back expats to their own home country, whereever they are from: whether from USA or Kazakstan or Australia.

498 - It was an attempt to anger our foreign colleagues.

The point of this entire post is to save money for Chevron and spare additional job cuts in the host country's by returning the foreigners to their homeland. (Think global) Chevron America appears to have an abundance of foreigners with work visa's, H1B's, etc. and there is an opportunity to take action and cut their positions first. America, Australia, Wherever...A citizen of the host country, were resources are being extracted, should not loose their job over a foreigner. Exceptions being the Albert Einstein's of the world.

George Kirkland spoke to this point a few years back in a townhall in an not so obvious way when a woman asked, what is Chevron doing to bring more expats to America. His general statement was that we want to build the capability in the host country. My point is that if you are laying off citizens of a host country, you are letting the capability walk out of the door and you are paying a higher price for the foreigners that are left. Send them back home and let them work at their regular pay without all the uplift costs involved. If you are a foreigner that no longer has a place to go back to because that asset was sold, consider yourself lucky to have made more money while you where in the host country than you would have made if you stayed back in your homeland. Don't feel entitled! You where a guest and not a citizen. (Shell has already started this trend, ask around.)

Agree with 088 entirely. Get the USA and other Expats out of Australia and let locals get these Projects built. How can Chevron justify Engineers and Operational Expats without any LNG experience do rotational roles with a large uplift take jobs that local people could do? They have young engineers without ANY construction or commissioning experience doing 28/28 day rotations whilst Local Australians are getting laid off. Also Kazakh Op's people giving locals LNG start-up guidance???

Also 90% of middle and senior management (from the USA and UK) are in Perth of a massive Expat package attempting to develop the ABU. What a joke.

430 - You will cost less to Chevron when you return to your homeland. Welcome to vacation any time here in the US, clothes required.

OP, diversity is and has always been one of the greatest strengths of the company. Most expats working in the US cost less, all in, than the average US employee, and every one of them that I know was shocked upon their arrival here to discover just how sloppy most US workers have become. The world is discovering that the emperor truly wears no clothes...

Tell the guy who's kids putting his pay amounts on Twitter he is too stupid to work at Chevron. I hope this jerk loses his job, and his Bratty kid has to live in the real world.

Yes, I meant to say work visa. I only visited foreign countries, never to their jobs. We can save the green card topic if the entire world economy collapses.

Anonymous188976 - It sounds like you are confusing "green card" with "work visa". There is a big difference, a work visa requires sponsorship by an employer, while someone with a green card is actually a legal resident.

Exactly! That job should go back to an Australian Citizen and reduce the payroll cost to Chevron. It goes both ways!

By the way, who are the majority of workers going to foreign lands for a job? The higher PSG's and few lower level selects too.

Anonymous 189204 - I know one American citizen who lives in Katy Tx, but works month on month off in Australia, he earns USD $300,000 pa. His daughter had been posting photos of their text messages on her Twitter bragging about his pay checks.

Agreed. Do the American expats make more money in a foreign land or less money in a foreign land? Do the foreign visitors in America make more money in America or in their own land? Chevron is about making money globally. The party is over for now, and it is time for the guest to go home and visit again during the next party.

There are many Americans working in other countries. Y'all act like sending expats home would be a positive for US employees, but the reality is a large number of Americans will be coming back to the states.

Green cards are issued in America because there are not enough American citizens to do the job. Apparently, this is no longer the case given the recent layoff of positions in the American Oil and Gas Industry. Shell has already start this trend. FYI...America "is" the land of diversity and remember if you are not a citizen, you are guest. Unfortunately, some guest don't understand when it is time to leave and visit another day. Works both ways

WOW.. Great idea and yes ship all the US expats back to the good old USA. .. They have had it too good for so long on their enhanced packages. And 869 it is not all about America you really need to get into the Chevron Way and diversity regarding you colleagues in other locations.

Can we then ship back the American expats out here?

Cut the dividends and care for your people, not the bankers.
