Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Thoughts From A Potential Nursing Student.

I have looked into attending nursing school at South University here in Florida. After careful consideration and speaking with others, I have decided to go to a community college as I believe the tuition is more in line with affordability and offers somewhat better preparation for passing the NYCLEX exam. If I desire to obtain a BSN, I understand that my credits would be transferable whereas at South, as I understand it, they are not. In considering the overall cost of the the degree it would be far less than the 100 thousand dollars they would charge at South. In addition, after careful investigation, I must say that the overall graduation rate of 17% for the school in general makes me somewhat skeptical of the quality of education offered. Additionally, and I'm not certain of this, the word has been circulating that they are having financial difficulties which would make even graduating within four years an uncertain possibility if at all. To be honest, I'm not trying to purchase a house, just get an affordable, practical education. I trust I am being fair in my assessment as I am just starting out in life, so to speak, and want to make sound financial decisions. Any thoughts from folks more experienced in these matters would be welcome. Thank You.

The nursing students that went to this EDMC school seemed pretty unhappy about their education. It was accredited. Doesn't mean shit anymore.

Do research and make your own decision. You ultimately have to live with that choice.

If all schools are not for profit, I should file a lawsuit against my school for making me pay for my education and now having loans to pay off.

The fact that u just used an analogy of a kid being raised by new parents vs for-profit corporation shows that you know nothing about business, or education for that matter. Arguing here is freaking pointless, u can't fix willful ignorance. These people we are arguing wuth are no good losers who couldnt even graduate college and decided to blame the f***ing system for it. For crying out loud we are talking about a CCNE accredited nursing program! No nurse in tge history of this wrbsite has rver posted that they were unhappy for any reason. This original post is obviously fake.

"All schools are for profit " NO THEY ARE NOT, Mr. EDUC management. All schools need money to survive but there is a vast difference between real colleges and universities and a corporation mascaraing as a school by calling it for-profit. Real schools have your education as it main priority. For-profit main goal is to make it's shareholders happy by increasing profits every quarter. Lets put it this way, if you were still a kid and your parents suddenly died, would you want a new set of parents who love kids to raise you to adulthood or would you prefer a for-profit corporation to manage you until the money your parents left runs out?

COMPLIANCE GAP 298!!!! Shame, shame. You should know we are not allowed to compare accreditations between schools in a general statement like that. What you just said implies that South and Duke have identical accreditations. If you do your research you will find that Duke is a MUCH larger university with many numerous Accreditations that are not at all the same as South. They both have institutional accreditation through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. That is word for word from the "About Us" page on South University's website. Right above that statement on the same page is a very clear disclosure about accreditation and licensing varying by South university campuses and locations. That means South is very clearly stating that they don't even have the exact same accreditation amongst their own schools, let alone having identical accreditation to Duke University. It's not nearly as simple as you like to make it sound, which is why it is a compliance gap to make statements such as your post. Gap 4 if I remember correctly.

You've made the right decision. For profit degrees are ridiculously overpriced. Management is concerned with profit not your education. Faculty are often poor quality, and rewarded for passing illiterate students. Tell your friends as well to run as fast as they can from any for profit. Community college leading to perhaps a local state college is cheaper and better in every way.

Do your research. It is your choice what you do, no one should convince you one way or the other.

Go to a community college. It is a better deal. It'll be much cheaper. If you end up not enjoying nursing and dropping out, your educational debt will be a lot lower than at any EDMC branded school. As you already mentioned, your credits would transfer if you went to a CC, rather than a for-profit school.

Do your research before enrolling anywhere.
