OK - check this out - it just got published by WSJ - I am pretty sure this is reliable (link below): Chevron Corp. is planning to lay off up to 1,000 employees working in the neutral zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, as a dispute between those countries has halted all work on oil fields for several months, according to people familiar with the matter. http://www.wsj.com/articles/chevron-plans-close-to-1-000-layoffs-of-saudi-staff-in-kuwait-oil-spat-1447091271

If Kuwait can find a way to break the Durra agreement, this problem will disappear.
The number is roughly the total number of employees Chevron had in this Business Unit. So it looks like they are closing shop as the pending visa problems remain unresolved.
This article is based on half truths and is point blank factually incorrect. It has been no secret that the wafra field has been shut in since May. Watson addressed it publicly to the shareholders. Information on the ground in PZ leads to this article being more false than anything. Many expats have already been redeployed to other business units and I would bet big money there will be Saudi layoffs in the future of the visa issue is not resolved - but it won't be 1000 Saudis and it won't be anytime in the near future.
That is a funny article in the WSJ. This had nothing to do with environmental concerns. That was just the story to avoid telling the truth. Kuwait has already told KOC to make up the difference (or at least try). The 300K bpd won't be missed by anyone else. It also was no secret. Bloomberg, Reuters, Oilpro, et al reported on this in May. Maybe Watson didn't read the news? Wishful thinking? Here is a link: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/business/saudi-kuwait-in-talks-to-resolve-oil-row/articleshow/47799317.cms and here is another: http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/05/11/saudi-kuwait-oil-idUSL5N0Y21KO20150511#XFY0OfZEqALI23LC.97 but the issues go very deep.
Hell of a job that must have been keeping that quiet until this press release... I wonder what PNZ's CIP factor will be
Wafra hasn't produced oil in over six months. What have the 1,000 Chevron employees been doing all this time? The math doesn't add up.
No, the 6-7k does not include contractors. There are an equivalent number of contractors also being released.
the 6000-7000 includes contractors AND the 1500 employees from project alpha and the several hundred from CNAEP RAE.. add another 1000 from this news. lessens the blow for 2016 for those of us still around.
I didn't realize Chevron had 1,000 employees in the NZ. I thought the majority were contractors. And the majority of all of of them are TCN's regardless of employment status. I admit I have not been there in a few years but production is only like 300,000 bpd. But yes Wafra has been shut down for a long time. The fact that anyone is still there at all is astounding.

Anonymous196600 - I think so, that should bring the US numbers down
so this could be 1,000 of the 6,000-7,000 layoffs they announced ...
Do not be mean to Saudis. They had this in works for a while.
These cloth heads are between them sitting on half the world's oil reserves and they argue about a thin sliver of territory ?
