Sorry for the repost but here it goes - I would expect another round of layoffs, either before or immediately after WM's fiscal year end (1/31/16.) Last month, many managers and Sr. Managers lost their direct reports and are now individual contributors. Do you think that these associates are being "staged" for the next round?

The current rumour is 1/14.
I left Walmart last year after suffering racism and other abuse and directors telling that that "boys will be boys".
I still have many friends in Walmart and am reaching out to them constantly to help them move to other roles outside of AR and Walmart,
My friends are the guys who disable the logon accounts and walk people out (3/4 different sets of teams). I have it on good authority layoffs are coming in the next few weeks
The "layoff math" notion is ridiculous. If Walmart is "skills adjusting" through this practice, the cost to the company is astronomical and not sustainable. One of many core problems is workforce "inbreeding", and the notion that anyone can do anything at Walmart if they have the will to succeed or the right person backing them. Training, education, skills, and expertise are under valued, while tenure and a cut-throat culture reigns.
I know the layoffs will continue. The next round will be another 500 employees and will be in the beginning of 2016. The best advice of all, keep looking for your next role outside the company. I was very surprise when I heard that talented people from HQ got layoff, some with more than 20 years in the company. Among the people who got layoff, I guess, the worst was for some employees from different countries, after got layoff they have to leave US within 60 days after , because they don't have a green card just a work visa. They bought a house, car and have the kids at school, when they got hired by Wall-Wall, the company paid full relocation, now they are in their own. The saga will continue. It is public knowledge that the layoffs is necessary for the company surviving, but also the employees needs to survive as well, so the best advice is have your resume updated and keep looking for another job even before the layoff gets official.
I think it's likely that they will hit the HQ just about that time in 2016. Managers again.
We'll see what happens here - we kind of have perpetual layoffs but we also hire at the same time - when you do the 'layoff math' the net is positive, so we hire more people than we let go. I think they are adjusting skills this way. It's not fun but many would agree that that's necessary for a company to survive
