Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Question and needing info: If you were offered a position, took it, but now dreading the decision, can you opt out and ask for severance?

Like many fellow team members. I was offered a severance packaged, but I stayed and took a position for more money. Now I am dreading that decision and wondering if I can change my mind and approach my TMSL/STL about taking my severance package and going about my life. I sent out a ton of my resumes and filled applications when my job was in jeapordy. I have received many inquiries and weighing my options so that I can proceed to 2016 off with a fresh start. Anyone have any feedback. I would appreciate it.

Severance, oh, wish I would of been offered one! Would of been outta' of there so fast the door wouldn't of hit me on the ass on the way out! I am still there doing the work of more than one person.

OP here, thank you all for the follow ups and understanding. I know that I'm not the only TM going through this and having these questions. IF there is to be another round of layoffs, I am only speaking on behalf of myself and feelings, I am going to take option 1 and running as fast as I can. From experience, I chose option 2, received a raise after taking a new position, but constantly getting picked on and harassed at work. Our store morale is at an all time low, sales are down tremendously, and as a result, there are no hours and teams are struggling and overwhelmed with work responsibilities because of the cuts. Let's be honest, during the holidays we are fully staffed and rocking and rolling with Guest. The morale and mood is festive, but this year has been anything but that. I've never experienced anything like this and wondering if it's just my location.

Wow, I do not recall reading anything in my notice letter stating I had time to sign until 11/22. I had another person look it over, and I must have re-read it 10 times.

I did take option one, and do not regret. I do think you will upset morons around you. It's best to leave on a good note, as you can't trust morons. I understand about the pressure you felt, having being told you had 24 hrs to make that decision. That is f***ed up, and doesn't sound right - this you bring up to a layer! As most can't make clear judgement when being put under that kind of pressure. One manager told me 24 hrs, and then later another told me by the end of that first week. What a mess, no one knows anything in that place. Just keep applying, something will turn-up, and all this will be behind you.

No once you selected option 2 you don't qualify for the severence. I was told that precisely.

Thank you for your responce. I certainly did sign my paper. But the only reason why is because the STL broke the news Monday 9/28 and at that time said we only have 24 hours to make a decision and that the position that I had available would be interviewing Thursday of the same week.

The severance letter I remember reading said that I didn't have to sign anything or commit to anything until 11/22. I'm guessing that if you signed or agreed to anything than you are out of luck severance-wise, but ask a lawyer. Please, ask a lawyer, let us know!
