Screw what's best for the economy, or for the average person in general...is anyone else out there secretly holding out hope that another terrorist attack or 3rd world dictator will send the price of oil skyrocketing again? Sure there will be some lives lost, long speeches, accusations and protests, other countries ruined, American flags flying from every vehicle in the road. Think about it - posthumous medals of honor awarded to poor kids seduced into fighting for rich white men, sad stories of drones bombing civilians in the Middle East, stories of heroic valor on the 6 o'clock news, patriotism at an all-time high, the defense industry booming w new bloated long-term contracts, AND oil back up to $100/bbl....brings a tear to my eye!

The U.S. is still producing too much oil and gas, so a war overseas is not necessarily going to address the surplus. Many other countries will be able to increase output.
There are thousands of shale wells that have been drilled but not fractured yet. As more independents reduce spending on drilling they will frat these wells and re-frac older ones and the production will remain steady or even increase.
