Current company profile shows 17,800 employees still have a job but before these lay offs COP had 18,100 employees. Does this make any sense?

I don't know how the numbers work, but if you were a 30+ year employee for the Phillips Heritage plan with 60 weeks severance, you still get the pension for the next year. Does that mean, they are still kept on the books?
Severance is a one time payment. Employees are on the books until the end of the month (up to 21 days).
They likely still have to count all those still on severance. It will be updated in the coming months.
The guy who updates the number was laid off.
The number ceased to represent reality after the oil prices collapsed. The hiring and firing continues. The gray area of employee or contractor is more employee and less contractor today. I don't know..
Kept the bean counting bastards, and they can't even count people much less money.
Never trust what the companies number are, obviously!
