Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Follett 'Voice' coming soon

At the end of November the hone office is launching a survey called 'Follett Voice.' Ray Griffith commented that Follett has a 'Significant opportunity to reinvent itself' and called this up coming survey a chance to gather 'honest opinions.' Details to follow as they arise. A tiny part of me (and lets not beat around the bush, that part gets smaller every year) wants to believe that a concerted (and polite, lets get that clear) communication of grievences would make a difference. That said if you're still employed by the Big F, just remember the comments go both ways. Lets hope this is better than that time they spent millions to tell us we were all paid 'fairly' as a 'specialty retailer.'

I love the 'anonymous' survey that requires you to enter your unique Follett ID.

The great leap forward moved intellectuals who were seen as unfriendly to the party (or in this case Follett's new manangement) to country to grow food. When you're supporting 1B people why not treat two essential groups with disdain, right? People who knew what they were doing were moved out, sycophants who have no ability are moved into positions of authority because they pleased some on in the party at some point. Sound familiar?

These surveys are another waste of time, resources and money... instead of wasting time and money on trying to figure out ways to make employees happy... why not give them that money instead? ??

To 202916... I couldn't agree with you more... especially the last sentence about the great leap forward.... a country in East Asia tried a program called the "Great Leap Forward" back in the 1950s... it nearly destroyed the entire country causing millions of deaths due to famine and hard labor. If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about Google "the great leap forward" and read about it on Wikipedia.

There has never ever been an anonymous survey at Follett. Remember those engagement surveys that were supposed to be "anonymous" - I happened to do extremely well in that survey - top of the survey actually. I was shown the details, by participant. You best talk about what a joy it is....unless you want to be "suddenly stupid".

These things usually turn into bitch-fests and will go ignored. They're just throwing a carrot to you to keep the masses happy. Follett is bailing water out of a sinking ship and they don't know how to plug the holes. The arrogance of some of the higher ups is astounding. If they could be humble for a second and be open to ideas maybe you could plug a few holes before the ship sinks...but who is kidding, they won't. Still hear the horror stories and frustration from people. So glad I'm not there anymore

The people in charge have no idea why things were great. They have no idea what worked. What if they saw proposals buffed out with upside and hope (instead of anger and nostalgia). Those proposals could reflect what made the old company a great place, only they would be sold as new ideas. Why was Follett a great place to work and an asset to our client base. They don't know any better. Shine those ideas up, they'll steal them and claim them as their own. Or, you'll be shipped of to reeducation camps and the great leap forward will continue.
