Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron is great, BUT

Where do I start. I am so effing tired of it for all the reasons bellow. I am so tired to even write in full or intelligent sentences. I am French, f*** it, I can do this. A bit drunk too , for wasting 10 years here.

What started this? A disgusting PASA session today calibrating over 300 folks in IT. What a parody. You can manipulate this shit any way you want. Ojective? One manager / group failure is pitched as an above & beyond by other manager and it gets a promotion or a cluster 1 or 2+ WTF. There is no sense of quality or budget in representing people or major deliverables. It was delivered successfully but 3 years behind schedule. Sounds like Gorgon :-) WTF? Is the success or the 3 years that matters? In CVX is the success :-) f*** the schedule

I come from Exxon, here for 10 years, surprised I lasted for so long

I am PSG 26 and stuck in this nonsense web of IT. IT here is HORRIBLE. They can’t figure out their billing or quality of service. Don’t even talk about management

Poor piss bloated management, IT and Business alike. Bill FIX this shit man, don’t pull a Louie

I wish CVX would institute an IQ test, or any test for that matters, besides the stupid colors test

Did I say liberals, democrats, WTF? liberal feel-good bullshit

Diversity overkill, too many fags an trans, really. I am diverse but don’t put it in my face all the time. It gets me when lots of them end up on the future leader list. Shit I need to have a sex change.

The good, they pay SHIT load of money and I have enough time see my kids grow. Now is time to get back to the real wold. I still have the skills so I am not worried. CVX people should worry. I never considered myself a CVX.

And MY FAVORITE that got me a 2- :-) in this PASA session . I just love it. Providing criticism straight out is a non Chevron way behaviour. You may be right but don’t tell me or my managers. That’s not cool telling me my baby is UGLY. People in Chevron are always right, never wrong, and if you tell them they’re wrong, you’re exhibiting a non chevron way behavior. NICE. Thanks for the 2- I am actually happy. This 2- sealed the deal for me, how much non-sense you have in Chevron.

Moral of story, if you’re an outsider, you will never win, is like fighting against a mass of stupid brainwashed Chevron robots. Chevron can’t and will not accept outsider criticism to how to better and do things smarter. WTF you hire experienced hires, pay them shit load of $$$ and shut them down when they speak? Is absolute nonsense. That by itself is STUPID

Words of wisdom. I REALLY wish oil will go to $20. Taking money away from CVX will force real change, painful change, forcing the real losers out.

I won’t stick around and pay the pension for so many effing losers. off that. Magic number? Heard that word right :-) CVX is at $94 where Exxon is at $55 and Shell at $60. Curious how long Chevron can run in red after canning people, selling assets and borrowing money. You do the matt.

My first observation from the first year hasn’t changed. Chevon is fat an happy and unless you put them on diet ($20/oil) it will continue being fat and happy. Simple as that

Me, OUT

205502 You are the one spelling Hi-Po (hippo). Next, you disparage posters for not using the HI-Pot spelling. Do your really call those "chosen" friends and relatives Hi-Pots? Get it, high on pot? You appear as dump as a pile of sludge. You must have been hired and promoted by your Hi-Po uncle or sister-in-law. Yes, the deadwood is safe at Chevron.

I rarely put a comment here, but one thing is most certain: I saw a lot of talk about "dead wood" here, and I can attest to the fact that most of the "dead wood" stays in the company reorg after reorg, and reserves the right to 1 and 2+ rankings. Don't fool yourselves: the ranking has not much to do with your performance. Most of the time, it is directly related to your ability to kiss ass and to be passive.

you are not French ... no way !!! I have worked with plenty of French people in a previous job and you certainly don't sound or write like one.

Just some frustrated twit who wines about getting a 2- because he didn't perform.

Completely share your sentiment and experience, except for the 2- part.

New ideas are disregarded, and if you are not part of the clique, you're a goner.

Let alone that the Chevron Way is to be 'polite' at your face, while sticking it to you from behind, with your clique friends.

I'm not a kiss ass or a hypocrite so I never became part of the clique.

So regardless of the 2- or not, if you're not one, you're gone.

Thanks OP for sharing your experience. I too came as an experienced hire to CVX about 10 years ago and I can relate to your observations. I would agree with all your inferences- if I wrote a post like you it would sound very similar. You probably would have not vented this way if you didn't get a 2- and that's how a lot of people in the company operates- they want to ride the gravy train as long as they can!

Anon204360- I know quite a few Texaco and Unocal folks who are in leadership role and so they haven't been left out. The friends and family plan still works depending on who is running the show. For eg., if the top dog (VP/MD/GM) came from one of the two companies, lot of the line managers under them are dominated by folks they knew in their original companies.

"Don't call my baby ugly" unless you're an expensive external consultant who I'm paying masses of money. I was an expert in my field and my advice to my manager was consistently disregarded because they didn't like me on a personal level. I'm not an a-hole, don't go out of my way to offend people, but I wasn't one to hold back on my opinion because I kind of thought that's what they were paying for. Yeah, sort of naive. Can't tell you how many times some manager would come up with a brilliant idea I had already proposed a year before and it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Or better yet, the while male consultant comes in, interviews me, and presents my idea back to acclaim and butt loads of money.

These are honest assessments of the late, once great Chevron. How many a high-po hippos are actually members of the friends and family gang of Standard of California? Most. The acquisitions of Unocal and Texaco didn't get in on the family plan. The top performers of those companies were cut over the past five years. Now the stockholders own shares of a shell of a company selling assets to cover for the pumped up story of Gorgon and Wheatstone, Atlas and the blind expedition of shale gas in Central Europe.

I raised my hand because of all this crap. You are right, if you aren't part of the clique, you are screwed. They keep putting the "hipos" in jobs they have no skills to do, then when they are on the verge of failure, move them somewhere else. How can you have GM's that have no education in IT running IT groups. I found a job at another company, and getting to do real work, not this kiss up to get a 2 on my PMP.
