Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron expats

Hearing reports of many being sent back home. Poor babies will have to be without servants, cars, expensive schools and lots of other liberal allowances and benefits. Still not enough is being done to save costs by cutting back on nonessential expats. Everything they do can be done by locals in the respective countries. Executives making key decisions may be the only exception.

It makes sense to have a few US employees abroad as expats to make sure that Chevron interests are properly managed throughout the world. But we don't need a lot of non-Americans, be it from U.K., or Canada or kazhakstan or Russia, staying put as expats in the USA years on end making twice the income of an American citizen.

FYI - A number of foreign countries require companies expats employ servants, etc to create jobs and boost the local economy. Cost of doing business in some cases.

What about the expats in the US from Canada and kazhakstan etc.? They get expensive schools, housing, though no cars and servants. Still they get paid twice the US worker. There are many of them here staying put in their B1 visas years on end. Is Chevron doing anything to move them?

A little late to send they back home. Lots of locals lose their job before somebody realize where was the excessive spending. I hope more are repatriate soon

OP is speaking out of his ass. There's a reason 22+ PSG folks go expat, and I can assure my skill set and critical thinking are needed where I am.

Get yourself some education (Chevron will pay for it), work hard to do something with your career that your proud of, and maybe someday someone will need you in an expat position training and coaching locals. But judging from your post I reckon your the type that just likes to whine. Good luck with your future plans.

What about all the drivers, housemaids, gardeners, valets and cooks that will be out of work when the expats leave? No compassion for them? Where is their layoff page? Are you going to support them on your local salary? I don't think so! Those expensive schools will become even more expensive with lower enrollment. Parents might have to give up the Grey Poupon and downgrade to French's.
