No, I do not believe that Irwin can change the inevitable. Qualcomm grew up as an idea and technology company. In order to remain competitive, I believe it needs to transform its current products into "race to the bottom" products and create new ideas and technologies. I have loved working for Irwin for years. However, neither of his companies needed to transition any product lines to "race to the bottom". Therefore, I do not see why his magical ability to bring new technology to market will translate to "race to the bottom" products.
He is doing god work now. He is funding charities. He is funding startups. Maybe he is putting his name on many things. However, that is subjective. Today, most of us do not think about that way about the Carnegie libraries.
