Worked with the Development employees, fill their heads with a lot and they think they can run a company without no lifetime experience. They have no respect for experienced employees, just how fast can they get to the top. How much experience can you gain with less than 2 years in a position? The best thing is if they screw up, make bad decisions, they will be long gone and never be accountable for their performance.

It's sad to think company employees stratify others into these general terms. So glad I'm not with ConocoPhillips anymore.
Actually well(ish) said. I like your fire.
Young Pup - that was a poorly written comment on my part - not ALL fall into that category. If you do not, then excellent, you'll likely have a long and prosporous career. I was referring to the hotshots coming out of UT, A&M, OU Engineering who seems to have the 'god's gift to the oilfield' issue, seemingly forgetting that every other Engineer in the company came out of an excellent program as well, LONG before they did and have likely forgotten more subject matter than they even know (although again, not in all cases). They can't be mentored b/c they have no time to learn an actual skill set - too busy attempting politic their way into a 'better' job (COP is the worst company I've seen for politicking and I've worked for 4 operators). Note that I did not say the 'young pups' were useless - there are plenty of useless 'experienced' folks as well - your time in a job does not = skills, what have you done? Some of the younger Engineers are correct in recgonizing som eof these 'experienced' folks who have the same 3 yrs 7-8 times over
Anyways, apologies for the broad paintbrush stroke - should know better
Yeah... Hopefully it wasn't downward dog.
Two years in one position? Read the Kama Sutra, Youtube, something...damn!!!
1mim - for starters... I do not like the way you young guys eye-up my man-boobs. I can not stand those trendy 1940 era hair cuts, real men wear 1980's mullets. If I could type at a higher rate that 10 words/min a would elaborate further... But i just don't have the time. What the hell is blue tooth anyways?
specifically, what do you hate about the young pups? I would fall under that category and for the most part, I have a lot of respect for the experienced guys. I am far from arrogant and walk around with a friendly smile all the time. Do explain, I want to learn and change.
Devil's Advocate ~ You've got that wrong. The +20 year employees don't feel entitled. They have their heads down working like dogs and hoping their tickets aren't called in the next layoff.
The term is "trial by fire". Or at least that was the term used by one of the new upper managers in information technology to describe the first 1-2 years in the organization. The upper manager noted "trial by fire" is not the better introduction to an organization for those less willing to kill or be killed. The culture will kill the organization.
Just playing devils advocate here... There are some +20 year employees that feel they are entitled to do the bare minimum. They cling to the idea that they've put their time in and now it's their turn to coast, the "young pups" need to earn their stripes and prove their worth. They delegate as much possible to the more junior staff because that's "how things work". This particular personality can be found in any organization, not just COP.
They take their cues from Leadership. To be honest, I hate most of the 'young pups' at COP. However, they're learning their behavior from those at top - do what you think will get you as far as you can as fast as you can
One example, what happened to the research center in Colorado? Who made that decision?
Accountable? Have you seen our management team? Have you seen the piss poor decisions that have been made? Accountability is a word that is carelessly thrown around. There is no accountability at COP.
