Between buyback, Rush, bowl games and the holidays. December was my least favorite month. The mad dash and stress put on you to have the store ready. I'm taking time off this year like normal people do.
There's other jobs out there, people. Remember that the next three weeks when you get email after harassing email.
I don't miss the bookstore business one little bit.

Its Great not working for Follett anymore!!! I'll not stressed anymore, lucky to collect a package and my vacation time, get out before it's too late!!!! May be unemployment but so happy not working for this company anymore, best thing that happened to me!!!!
One needs to look no further than this topic to understand how Follett fell. The holidays are a period when selling on college campuses slows to a crawl. An easy transition to the Winter quarter or the inter-mester ought to be underway. Those with vacation time should get their departments in order and then spend time with their families. All too soon the student will be back on campus. They don't care and they don't understand how much work it takes for their campus to be ready for them, but their campus should be ready for them.
Follett lost track of who they are and what they do. They thought they were a retailing giant. Follett never was a retail giant. They were a niche book seller who could make up margin by selling school nostalgia (and they were very good at what they did). Their market changed. They missed the market and now they're irrelevant. So today we have employees stressing over the holidays. It didn't have to be this way.
Been an interesting buy - biggest issue is finding someone to help you when funds do not show up at the store.
We were given someone to contact, however it took them days to get back to us. Not good.
