Everyone except management loses in this scenario. All savings from this setup is extracted by executives in form of higher bonuses and stock awards. It's time to stop this practice, pay benefits to workers and stop playing the game. We are destroying our middle class this way and VZ is one of the biggest employers of independent contractors.

It's the benefits stupid. Labor laws make it very expensive to hire. Contractors are the out. As they say, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

I agree with this. Everyone looses in the end with contracting. Either take on the employee, or not, but dont 'hedge' an employee.
That's the only way you can maybe fix this problem. If the corporations don't want him, I do.
