Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Pilot Program, Testing and Layoffs to Follow in 2016

For all of you that do not believe you can go ahead and check with Store #2580 – you’ll learn that that they have eliminated all department mgrs. from their selling platform… No this is not a horrible store closing tactic. This is in fact a test for this new program.

This is affecting more than 10 department managers and receiving, admin and delivery will be affected. Also, the sales floor department managers… LP, Installs and PSA will not be affected… They will open new service manager positions, five of them, and 3 will be on the sales floor and one for the front end admin, all other will be receiving and delivery, in combination.. .

When you look a this this will cover more departments – they are hiring 30 part CSAs to cover it.

HUB location will take over the HR rep, HRs will not be in the store, they will be centralized and most HR positions will be eliminated – so HR can go and enjoy this change – I am sure they hate it.

It’s testing, so not sure if the pilot will survive but I think it will. See how things change…

Unfortunately in the stores I've worked in (6) most Department Managers aren't very good and don't have the drive to improve. Every store has on average 4-5 that go above and beyond everyday for our customers and their employees. Those are the type of employees we want. Being in upper store management and knowing my workload will increase with this change I'm still glad it's coming. Employees look at DMs that aren't good at their job and they wonder why they are in position. This will weed out the dead weight and let us run a more efficient store. Numbers I've heard are 24% of Lowe's store expenses come from payroll. Most retailers are around 18%. That's a huge gap that we need to fix if we are going to stay competitive in the marketplace. Some of you may not like the changes but they are necessary to ensure Lowe's long term success.

As of September 2016 all department managers ( at our store) where informed that this is coming to all district very soon and they intent to give no warning not even the Store manager will be give advance warning regarding the time frames. This is not a store rumor this was told in an official store department manager meeting held this month. it will happen district by district slowly but it is going to happen within next 12 month was the store managers prediction. sometime these thing get delayed and adjusted but it very much on the plate and will happen in some form. Luckily our store manager is very open with us and tell us the way it is always. I known her for a long time I trust what she says to be accurate. Going into the meeting there was so many rumors that our store manager said she need to tell us what she knows.

Bob Nibloc and his stupid ideas have got to go. Remember J.C Penney company almost went out of business because of a new leader with harebrained ideas. Stop trying to fix something that isn't broken!

Rumor was they were gonna expand this nationwide in late 2016. Today our market director and his VP told store managers and HR managers there were no plans to expand this anytime soon. Apparently the results of the service manager model are mixed at best and transitioning HR from the stores to hubs has been a failure.

I worked for Lowe's for 20 years. Starting out part time working my way up to an assistant manager. It all really started going downhill after former CEO Bob Tillman stepped down, Nick Canter stepping down and you let people like Bob Nibloc and others come in and seriously take what was once a great company to work for and turn it into a miserable company to work for and you're always looking over your shoulder to see who's the next round of people to get laid off. Good people who are pleasant to work with and for who will lose their jobs because these new jokers don't know how to run a business except into the ground.
